Chip butty has been consumed. 'Mucky' chunky chips cooked in half dripping, half ground nut oil, white bread with lashings of butter, and dripping in salt and vinegar. It did succeed in cheering me up a bit

Speaking of ground nuts. According to VIZ you can pour a packet of salted peanuts into a bag of crisps and eat 'em together. Not only does it cheer you up but it's also two of your five a day.

The only issue for me is that it is almost impossible to make proper chips at home. Mrs Crossy and I often get black looks when we make chip butties in some of Whitby's finest eateries.
Don't agree that it's almost impossible to make proper chips at home though. I prefer homemade to chippy chips. King Edward's, thick cut and soaked in water to remove the starch, then dried thoroughly before being plunged into a proper chip pan filled with half dripping or lard and half ground nut oil and fried until golden. Pure culinary bliss.
