Now thats the bit I would love Cagney. I live in a very old house and I think the traditional tree looks better, having said that my sis-in  law is an interior designer and had a black tree last year with mauve, purple and  silver (similar to yours I'm sure) and it looked AMAZING as did her dinner table which was along the same lines. Just not for me though. (Boring old fashioned git!!)

I have a 4 foot tree covered in baubles and white lights, don't like the coloured lights and a fairy on the top this year, this changes from year to year, next year will be the star again, my colours are red, gold and green the traditional ones and I have to place the baubles carefully not to get two of the same colour together, I also have 2 small trees in my front window and a candle bridge in the middle of them, my cards are always blue tacked to the wall and I want to get some more decorations for the ceiling
I have various ornaments round my tree in the living room, a glass nativity snow scene is the latest from last years German market, am hoping to get some more soon..

I am not putting one up. Only have to take the damn thing down again.

We always used to have a real one.... but it got a bit too much hassle a couple of years ago, not to mention the arguments that ensued as to which one to buy...... so now we have an artificial one..... but still have all the kids baubles on it

I always choose it for the general shape, but the trunk is always too large for the stand, and the language that comes out of Mr S after he wrestles with the stump... Spoils the whole process.
