I always like more unusual presents like silly gadgets and novelties, or computer games.  I would be quite pleased if someone bought me one of those nice light up umbrellas.  I hate getting things like toiletries, make up, and perfume, and would be very, very insulted if anyone gave me a voucher for a beauty salon.

Why would you be insulted? i use them to have a facial or massage - lovely!
I would find it insulting that someone thought I needed a beauty treatment!  I don't think giving someone a present like a voicher for a beauty salon shows any thought or imagination whatsoever.  Apart from that, I can't imagine anything I would enjoy less!

Growly, now deodrant would be insulting. A beauty voucher would be fantastic, I certainly wouldn't be insulted, I'd love it.
I would be insulted by any toiletries or any kind of voucher - I just think those are the sort of things you buy for people out of desperation at 5.55 on Christmas Eve when you can't be bothered to think of something more original.    I'd much rather have a little gift that cost a fiver but which a lot of thought had gone into than a voucher for a day at a health spa that cost a couple of hundred pounds.

ohh i like that idea, we could wink as we pass a fellow brolly holder

That's a very insensitive statement Growly...How about for the likes of my mother who had a stroke many years ago & is paralysed & blind...she loves a day of pampering!.....I certainly don't think about her last minute on christmas eve!

I'd love to help but I'm still struggling to find what to get for my neighbour - she finds fault with everything you buy can't buy make up or girly things cos she ain't girly, doesn't drink alcohol, dresses like a chav - so I'm stumped. good luck though - think the Twilight umbrella's a good idea
Don't you just hate people like that!

I would ADORE a beauty salon voucher

On my birthday last year my Mum got me one and babysitted my then 3 month old baby and made me lunch for when I got home. It was the nicest , most thoughful present I have ever had.

My Mum had obviously heard me bemoaning how tired I looked (facial) how sore my back was (massage) and how unglamourous I felt (manicure). I felt fab afterwards

ohhhhhhhhh the best gift i had was last year. went to the inlaws and my SIL made everyone a homemade hamper. (well one for each household). big lightly decorated basket filled with homemade cookies, chirstmas puds, sweets and little gifts like mugs, pez, socks, few toileteries (novelty ones for kids though...like inflating sponges) a water powered clock, mini games, keyrings, little toys, hot chocolate... just little bits and bobs. meant alot to me esp as she made them herself and spent pretty much all year buying the bits and bobs and adding them
