I've been wondering about this as well.  For our Christmas delivery, we're paying ÂĢ6 to Tesco.  If we then tip the delivery person, it's going to be a very expensive delivery.  I mean, would you tip the person on the check out at the shop at Christmas?  It's more stressful for them than the van drivers...  Hmmm, moral dimella.

Thanks for all your replies. I ended up not tipping him. Feel a bit guilty, but hey, I've already paid for the delivery, and he (the driver) probably gets more per hour than I do!

That point about not tipping the supermarket cashier is valid, they do work hard, and the person who actually picks my shopping, works harder than the van driver too, I reckon.

Reference:
I don't tip them either simply because of the ÂĢ5+ delivery charge. For that same reason I don't tip taxi drivers either because it costs a few quid before the taxi has even set off.
Last taxi I used totted up ÂĢ1.60 and that was just for me opening the door to get in!

I wouldn't tip grocery delivery, no.

No, I rarely tip.  Things are expensive enough as it is.  We tip the waitress when we go for a meal, but rarely any other time TBH.  It proper grated on me when we went to America., as we had to tip EVERYone, and when we had a meal, they added 15% on to the bill.  I mean, how did they know that we were happy?  Very very annoying.  And we were told that if our cab fare is $20, that we should tip $5 on top!  It annoyed me!

We do tip the paper boy, chinese food delivery guy, milkman, bin men etc at Christmas though, or buy them a gift. But why should we give 'tips' when we have already paid for something, and they are getting a wage for it?    MAYBE they're on minimum wage, but so are millions of others doing unskilled labour.
