I think they have a bloody cheek. WE bailed them out and the Government did set some kind of guide that they had to lend so much to get bonuses, now they are trying to hold us to ransom!!! They are lucky they still have their overpaid jobs!!!

I'm sure there's lots of people who'd work for less and are as able to do the job. Let them walk....

Call their bluff...It's not like there's a lot of banking jobs up for graps at their level right now. I understand not wanting to loose their most productive staff and I'm all for rewarding performance but it's our money at the end of the day.

It's a difficult one. If they have signed up to contracts that enable them to have these bonuses then I don't see what can be done. That's how yer market economy works.

devils advocate here, if the banks do not pay these high earners these bonuses, they will go elsewhere, maybe another financial district, but it has been said, because the markets have been as they are, we need to keep them here, so if it means them having their bonuses let them have them, it will be wiser in the long run

If I did not perform in my job I would be out on my ear, how can they get a bonus for letting the country down?

I don't see how rewarding them for getting things wrong is a good thing!
In most businesses you only get rewarded if you actually achieve!

& there should be a ceiling on the amounts given out in bonuses when it comes to public monies!!
It just takes the pee out of the hard working tax payer!

that is not what the financial experts say on this Slim, they say we need to keep them here, for the long term basis, seems stupid to me but what do I know

Sorry Sunset..but I have absolutely no faith in our so called financial experts!..where were they this past 2/3 yrs when the country was borrowing to a point that we are now!
Sack em all I say..& let the local playgroup run it..am positive they would do a better job!

I understand they want to keep the best financiers, but they haven't done such a good job now have they. They are high risk gambling with OUR money, money which we didn't have a say on whether we wanted to bail them out with. Why should they get big bonuses after the mess they left us in.....they will get them though, pointless even getting annoyed about it TBH....

...I hope they can sleep at night when they get their huge bonuses, knowing that some of THEIR lending has left people homeless....

and as u are both aware my family and I have been hard hit by the recession, but if it means our country coming out of it quicker than we will, then anything that makes that happen I am up for.

I can totally understand where you're coming from Sunset....
But theses bonuses are ludicrous....Yes maybe give em summat because they are contracted...but the amounts are just taking the pee!!
Your husband works bloody hard for his money..& stresses over whether he has work to go to alot of the time.....it just smacks as bloody unfair to me!

I do agree the amounts a ludicrous slim,  I really do and I think they should be capped to a certain amount and I can't quite believe I am playing devils advocate here, cos 2 years ago I'd have had the same view as a lot on here, but circmstances have changed my perception a little, maybe I will come back to my senses one day

Because that's how their contract is written up. Change someone's signed contract and you will be paying them a much more significant amount.
