TV host Paul O’Grady is mourning the loss of his sidekick Buster, who sadly had to be put to sleep yesterday at the age of 14 due to cancer.

Buster was a regular part of Paul O’Grady’s Channel 4 show and would happily perch on the side of his desk whilst Paul O’Grady hosted the show.

Buster retired from the show last week due to the illness. Buster was a Bichon Frise cross Poodle and was a constant companion to O’Grady who is a keen animal lover.

When Paul got his new puppy I couldn't help but wonder if it wouldn't be long before Buster died..although I wasn't sure if Olga was older than Buster or not.

I've heard so many times that when there are pets of an old age and a puppy or kitten are brought into the family that the eldest pet passes over within a relatively short space of time. It's almost as if the older ones feel they're being replaced, or maybe they sense it's okay for them to pass over now as there are others to take care of and love.

I think it's more a case of the owner knows that there isn't long left in the old pet and would find the yawning gap unbearable. sometimes even a new pup puts new life into the oldie. My friend has two labs .................she can't have kids and they are her babies (one is getting on now) I suspect she'll bring in a new one before long  - she has in the past .......it's not heartlessness or trying to replace - it's just keeping the 'family' going.

I certainly don't think it's heartlessness, I'm not even (personally) sure they're thinking about replacement at the time as loved pets can't totally be replaced, except by number, but not by personality as they're all as different in personality as humans are. For me it's heart centred people who love animals so much that would take in another pet if they can.
