There are only two types of 360, the Arcade and the Elite.

The Arcade is the cheap version, as it doesn't come with a hard drive which you need to be able to save games and other stuff on.

I'd recommend the Elite as it comes with a hard drive, and you'll probably be able to get a good bundle deal if you shop around.

For example, amazon are doing a deal where you get the console for £189.99, the new Call of Duty game for £10, and then another 2 games for £10. So you get the console and three games, which you'd normally pay about £35 each for, for only £209.99...

You'll probably find similar deals in most places, as it's coming up to Christmas.

The only thing then is if the person using it wants to play games online, you'd have to buy an XBox Live Gold subscription (or you can make them buy it themselves), you get 12 months subscription for around £30 if you shop around.

Its the Elite I want but its this subscription thing thats got me flummoxed, do I buy that seperate and if yes where from?, does it come in disc form?....

The subscription is separate to the console, you'll be able to get it wherever you get the console from. Basically you get a card with a code on it, you type the code in on the console, and it unlocks the 12 month membership.
