I got my Home Premium version yesterday for Β£44.
Professional gives you an XP Mode, domains for company networking, and backup facilities, on top of the Hom version. Ultimate does some more random and uninteresting stuff as far as the random punter is concerned.

Are you asking what the difference is between the various editions of Windows 7, eg. Home edition, Professional edition, Ultimate edition... ?
If so, see this wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions

Hi Low Would love to get shut of my Vista. More disk space taken up on my HD with updates, than all my other progs...Will buy it, but with all the new XBox games coming out before Xmas, will cost me a bleeding fortune.

XP Mode sounds okay as it is supposedly like having XP installed as well to run unsupported program. Win 7 needs upgrades to some drivers and programs. There's an upgrade advisor that you can install from Microsoft that checks your current PC out.
When we brought our PC earlier in the year, we found we had Windows 7 on it, I imagine a demo type thing, but have to say after using Vista, it's great. It's got all the ease of use of XP, and seems quicker, would consider putting the basic one on definitely.
I had Vista on my laptop and put XP on it instead, its much easier to use.

DO NOT BUY UPGRADE (OEM IF POSSIBLE)
have been running Windows 7 since February (Release Candidate)
With W7 it is recommended that it is a clean & full install & always buy a full version. Would recommend Pro or Home Premium. Ultimate is too expensive & there is nothing really in it that would warrant the cost.

So should i buy the cheapest " upgrade " Windows 7 then---- only use lappy for forums and other places . "other places being You Tube, FB etc;
if your machine is running vista then it is W7 compatible. The only thing I have found to be a problem is that you cannot turn off automatic upgrades.

for a lappy Home Premium is best. Very little to run & conserves battery power.Reference:

Pro or home Premium Abo.--- Which is the best IYO.
Remember that with an upgrade, if you ever need to reinstall you need to keep the original O/S and serial number hanging around. If organization is not your strong suit don't buy the upgrade.
Yes, I did lose my old copies of Office and now my Office upgrade is pretty useless.

Home Premium - anything is better than Vista. If you can find Pro cheap enough then get Pro but otherwise W7HP is brilliant anyway.& what Dave said regards the upgrade version
& Dave I know how oyu can fix your Office prob

Thanks Dave for those comforting words. Shouldn't you be in bed now? Reference:

My 9y.o worked things out quicker on W7. There is something called the Snipping Tool. He absolutely loves it. He gets his favourite cartoon pictures off the net now. Just look at the site belowhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bs6tzfzc_c

no we don't do consoles in our house - in fact he hates them. We are strictly a 4 computer household . He reckons consoles are a rip off & prefers a 13ft trampoline & Ben 10 Alien Force Reference:

And XBox 360 online is so much fun. Never thought i would like it, but am hooked now.
Eeh, so many acronyms, I need an education in all this
I'm going to wait until they sort out any teething troubles. Plus I don't have problems with my vista!
Don't understand half of what you lot are on about - but like liverbird - will wait and see what problems if any there are with it before even considering it.
Happy enough with XP at the moment anyway.

We have XP installed on our three machines. Don't see any need to get another.Reference:

We have XP on all 4 computers plus have partitioned the drives on 2 of those computers to also run Win 7 if we want to.
No fancy or need for it, XP does everything I need (and probably loads I don't).

Indeed! We use our machines creatively everyday and see no need whatsoever. :smug:Add Reply
