I don't think asking for the death penalty and National Service is the answer. Parents need to rediscover responsibility for their children, Teachers need to do their job without worrying about how to behave around pupils, Police need to be able to tell youngsters off without worry about retribution. Finding the adhesive of family and extended family again. Those are the remedies to our society IMHO.

Agree with you cologue! We need to look at what is going wrong in our society and there is a lot going wrong I'm afraid! We need to ask the question why?

People in power keep banging on about prison being there to "rehabilitate" prisoners. They seem to have forgotten that that is a secondary element - the prime purpose of jail is to PUNISH.

Because our jails are overflowing, everyone from politicians to penal reform groups say this is because we're jailing "too many" people. Actually, it's because the number of prison places has not kept pace with the growth of population in Britain.

There aren't enough cells because (durrr) THERE AREN'T ENOUGH CELLS! Build more jails and, while you're at it, remove all the tellies, games consoles, etc, to leave more room for bunks. And then make sure the worst in our society (killers, rapists, etc) stay there for a very long time.
