A Mother's Union approach isn't going to work. You can argue about holding them up to a light as much as you want. The bottom line is that the GBP look at image before content.
There's no need for a Mothers Union approach, we have programmes like Question Time instead. Their party has elected representatives and it is not the role of Question Time to deny voters the chance to see these people. Actually, I think the BBC now has an obligation to put them on occasionally. I don't want people to be able to casually vote for their party as a 'protest' vote or because they say the sort of vague thing people with a grudge might want to hear, I want to make those people be in no doubt, absolutely no doubt at all, what they are voting for or agree with. No verbal fudges, no airy hand waves. That is, if you vote for this party then this is exactly what you are. There's a lot of stuff flies around, especially on forums, about patriotism, and host culture, and heritage, and so-called Britishness, and obligations to assimilate and toe the cultural line. It's fuzzy and vague and I think it's simply one end of that party's spectrum of beliefs, just a bit more acceptable in public. I want to shine a spotlight on the whole damned lot so there's nowhere to hide and no fuzzy thinking.
