Is it illegal to only have an old-style paper driving licence?
That's all I've got, and someone at work said that you HAD to have a photo type driving licence now, or your liable to a fine of ÂĢ1000.
I know I don't keep up with the news, but I've not heard anything about that, and I don't fancy having to pay out ÂĢ20 plus costs of photos, for something I might not need.
Anyone know?

As far as I know you don't have to get a photographic licence when points are being added to a paper licence. However once the endorsement period has expired (4 years for lesser offences, 11 for serious ones), you can apply for the endorsements to be removed from the licence but the licence of course would have to be a new one so would have to be with a photo.

If you ever need to show proof of identity (such as when you open a new bank account), then if you don't have a current passport, you may want to have a driving licence with a photo.
I'm up the creek without a paddle then!   I don't have a passport either. Mine expired about 20 years ago, and I haven't been anywhere to need one since!

I'll just have to make sure I don't need to open a new bank account, or go travelling, or get any points on my licence, and I'll be fine.
