Teaching Rodrigo to say "Ma`am"

Why were they teaching Rodrigo how to say "Ma`am"?
He`s Brazilian and would have said it like a Brazilian.
David is English but his "Ma`am" would have been more difficult for the Queen to understand.
As would Lisa`s perhaps.
They were also telling him to say "Ma`am" (to rhyme with farm.) But it should be to rhyme with `ham`.
Rodrigo was fine before the elocution lesson.

Yes, they were all saying it wrong, and his sounded correct!

I thought it hilarious when they couldn't pronounce Ma'am!

I used to work with a guy who was in the army and he always called me ma'am, but prounced it mam.

Although I don't like Bea every time I've caught over the years something to do with addressing the Queen by those who know the protocol it's been suggested she be addressed as the equivalent of Marm.

I was taught the correct pronunciation in school when the Queen paid a visit, just in case she spoke to any of us. My daughter was in the Royal Navy and she was told the same before the Queen boarded her ship for a visit.

You`re absolutely right Soozy woo.

Bea seems to think she is the expert for some reason though.

And re dunking... Obviously you wouldn`t dunk if you were having tea with the Queen, but I have been told by someone who used to work at Buck House, that the Queen does, in fact, dunk. (Not at any public function of course!)

Know-all Bea was determined to make him say it to rhyme with "charm" (wrong). He kept saying it to rhyme with "spam" (right).
