Just a recommendation for any of you who have cats or dogs. I've just had a claim settled within 5 days for some accidental damage caused by the dog to a carpet and sofa. I know loads of people with animals who have found themselves not covered for this type of damage on their home policy. Apparently not many insurers still cover pet damage. I'm with M&S, they weren't the cheapest but they weren't the most expensive either and their cover and service is excellent. I phoned last Friday, had the inspector come out on Tuesday and received the settlement today.

Thanks for the advice Queenie - I'd never thought about it actually - our dog's pretty good, but the rabbits can be quite naughty as far as furniture/carpets are concerned

Definitely worth thinking about. My friend had one of our pups and he's ruined her carpet, she was told they weren't covered for for pet damage. My mum was recently turned down too when her dogs chewed some really expensive chairs. Both were fuming as they hadn't realised they weren't covered and it cost them a fortune to replace the items.
I don't think I'd ever claim for pet damage. The way I see it is that if I can't train my pet to behave then that's my problem.

I've had dogs for 14 years and never claimed before despite the amount of stuff they've chewed and ruined. But this time I figured if I'm paying the premiums anyway I might as well claim. Several hundred pounds for a new carpet and mended sofa is the last thing I need to fork out for at the moment.

I tend to save claiming for big things like when a pipe burst in my attic and brought down the ceiling in on of my bedrooms wrecking the furniture, walls, carpet...the lot
