the clear implication was that she had to find it by eating only.

Why then did they go on to specifically say You must eat any bit that you bite, if they'd already told her she had to eat the cake?

Clarification. They wanted to prevent her from spitting it out.

I'm not sure what BB would have done if she'd been sick, though... Sick

No, they only told her that she couldn't use her hands. They told her that IF she bit any cake then she would have to eat what she had bitten, but they did not tell her she HAD TO or COULD ONLY bite it.

I'm sure they said that she could only use her mouth! Glance

And they also said she had to swallow whatever she'd bitten. It was only after some 5 hours that they altered the rules because clearly she was not going to give up.
I can't remember the exact words, but it was quite clear to me that she only had to smash it up and find the key. The only stipulation about using her mouth was that IF and only IF she bit any of the cake she would then have to eat that bitten piece.

They told her she would have to find the key in the cake in order to get out.
They told her she would have to eat any piece she bit.
They told her she could not use her hands.
That was all they told her.

It just shows how people see things differently. You, and I am sure that others, took it that way, but many other people took it that she had to eat the cake until she found the key.

People took it that way because that's what BB said.
As Blizzie has already posted, BB's first instruction to Hira was:
"You must eat through the cake, until you find the key to the [door to return to the] Diary Room."

See: Alice gets her cup-cake

I have to admit I don't see what was so fantastic about it myself. Also it seems to me what was enjoyable about it had little to do with Hira herself, except that the length of time to do the cake eating part was because she didn't comprehend the instructions. At no point did she absolutely have to eat even one mouthful of cake. Smiler

Laugh I kept screaming at the screen fgs bash the cake up you dumb mare Laugh

BB told her that she could only use her mouth and that every bit of cake she bit off had to be consumed. She followed the rules to the letter. Nod

They waited over 5 hours to tell her that she could now use her face and head to break the cake up! Laugh

No wonder her and Rod get on so well Laugh BUT, she could only use her mouth and she only had to eat what she bit....think about it Smiler

I don't think anyone thought she had to eat the whole cake, did they? Eeker

You missed out the bit re you must not spit it out Bliz

"You must eat through the cake, until you find the key to the Diary Room.
You are not permitted to use any part of your body, other than your mouth, to eat the cake.
Any part of the cake that you bite off must be consumed.Good luck Alice!"

That bit? Glance

Entertaining/Interesting is a completely subjective thing and it is actually quite annoying when people try to tell you who is or isn't entertaining.

While I appreciate you finding arguing, fighting, and general unpleasantness to be entertainment, it doesn't mean everyone else does.

I prefer housemates who immerse themselves into tasks, housemates who have come for the experience and are enjoying every second, housemates who aren't side tracked by petty nonsense arguments and fighting.

Therefore of all the housemates, Hira is my favourite.Smiler

Oh and I've voted for her 10 times so far and intend another 5 todays and 5 tomorrow.Smiler
Woooo! Get you LOL Big Grin BB would not be celebrating its 10th year, if they stuck a bunch of Hira-types in there way back in year 2 Shake Head And if you check out the threads in here for example, about 90% of them are about the more contravertial HMs - not the bores, so it would seem that either this place is full of hypocrites, or, the majority of us enjoy being entertained by the dodgy HMs Wink

Doesn't mean we want them to win, because I don't. But it makes good tellybox-watching IMO Thumbs Up

If you stick a bunch of Freddie-types, a bunch of Lisa-types, a bunch of Siavash-types... and so on... it would no longer be controversial.

Variety is the spice of life.Smiler

We need the whole range of housemate types so it can cater for everyone's tastes, because as I have already said, one man's entertainment is another man's boredom. It's is completely subjective.

Some of us think Hira is very interesting and entertaining. Difficult as it might be for you to believe.Smiler
