I just had an update...
Things are worse than they first thought - he has had surgery on his bowel and bladder, but they need to give him more surgery as everything below his chest is pretty mangled. He has been kept under sedation, but the little bit of good news is they roused him a tiny bit and asked him if he had any pain and he pointed to his stomach and gave a thumbs up sign, so they think there has been no brain damage.
It is very touch and go though, they are being told to take each hour as it comes. They can't say for sure that he will make it. He is on a ventilator as well.
The welfare officer is taking great care of them, with accommodation and all meals taken care of. He is also sorting out their insurance. My friend is overwhelmed with the support she is being offered, her local pub is already fundraising for them.
As for my friend - she is knocked sideways, though being incredibly strong - she has not broken down in front of the girls, though apparently she broke down badly last night after seeing him. She knows that her whole life is gone and now she has to figure out how to live this one.
They said that as he is such a healthy strong bloke it's why he's got this far as many wouldn't have made it.
I'm still in total shock and still praying for him and the family.
Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers...
This is heartbreaking.
Will be hoping for them all.
I have no idea what else I could possibly say.
I am so sorry Dab, for you, for him, for your friend and their girls.
