David thought Marcus had threatened to punch him, he may have misheard that part but considering Marcus called him a 'fat C' in an agressive nasty fashion I am not surprised he thought that was what was coming next.

David was squaring up and offering marcus out before the punk'd/punched misunderstanding happened. The guy is picking up Lisa's uncontrollable rage at her plan being thwarted and is turning it into physical confrontation. He's a bloke who's very easily led and Lisa is leading him into some dark places.
