i think i waited about 6-8 weeks.....
Can't remember exactly how long it took, but it was definitely within 2 weeks.
Well, thats long enough. I try not to think about it too much, but since the Jade thing, its just a bit more worryingquote:Originally posted by spongebob squarepants:

Mine came back about 3 weeks later.
Ever since Jade Goodie got ill and spoke out it's claimed that the number of women going for smear tests has soared.
I guess it's supply and demand ..if they've been inundated I guess the tests take longer to get analysed. Can't imagine they've suddenly taken on masses of extra staff to cope with the increase.

Perhaps it depends on your GP?quote:Originally posted by Cinds:

I think it can take 4-6 weeks although my results were back within 10 days.

i know....... .mine came back not to clever.....but i was transferred to the hospital dept really fast...and am waiting to have my next smear now to check if i've stayed all clear
it is a worry....but best to get these things checked...
I had mine recently - was told it would take 3 weeks - it took about 6!!
LMS.... I shouldn't worry, as others have said the 'Jade effect' will mean there will have been an increase in demand.
I used to work in the labs and the girls that do the screening (Cytoscreeners) had a similar situation when Alma on Coronation Street had cervical cancer.
They ended up with a 16 week backlog, and all the girls and any other staff qualified to do screening were working all hours to catch up.
It depends how well staffed your local lab is (Cytoscreening is quite low paid, and predominently staffed by females... so maternity leave is common. Its also highly skilled and takes a long time to train and qualify staff.... we were ALWAYS understaffed when I worked there).
You could always give your GP a ring and ask him to chase it up for you.

I can only echo what other posters have said. The increase in smear tests soared after Jade died, that has meant the usual waiting time is increased in some areas.
I went for mine in light of what Jade went through, the results took 9 weeks and showed a problem, it was about 3 weeks until I was in the hospital having treatment.
Without the publicity of Jade, I can honestly say I wouldn't have gone for a smear, and if I hadn't have gone my pre cancerous cells may have been much more. Jade's definately saved lives!

I should just add LMS... that if there WAS any doubt that your slide was not normal... it would get immediately escalated up to the Senior Cytologists .... rather than sit with the routines waiting for validation.
I.E. A delay in your result doesn't indiciate there is a problem hon!
