I get cramps in my legs and in my feet - usually happens when they have taken too much fluid off during dialysis. I have also gotten them in my hands.
Best thing to do is to stand up and walk around a bit. Your GP can prescribe quinine tablets if it happens a lot. Tonic water (which has a bit of quinine in it) can help too.

I am the weirdo with a weird hot foot disease. It's called Peripheral Neuropathy. I doubt that any other FMs have it though.
I had to look that up BB, sounds a difficult thing to live with, I hope you're getting some decent treatment for it.

Night cramps really are painful so sympathies
I used to suffer regularly but hadn't had any for about 20 years or so then a month ago I got 2 in a week.
Made me limp around whinging the next day - but my sons' would tell you that's normal behaviour for me

Yeah I was on my own when I had my first one and thought it was never going to end until I died.

It was horrible - it really scared me because of the fact that I was sleeping then suddenly I shot up in agony - it was awful!!
Yes, i've had muscle cramp in the back of my legs nearly every night for the past few months, it's so painful, and i also get cramp where you bend your foot at the front at the same time so i have to get out of bed to walk around. I hate it.

that must be absolutely awful every night!!
If I have a really good stretch I get cramp in my back...to counteract that I had to bend over and stretch my back out and then i get it under my ribs....what with that and the cramp in legs/feet and hot feet in bed as well its a wonder I get any sleep at all.

ever suffered muscle cramps in the bag of their legs??
I had my first one vere last night and cannot believe how incredibly painful it was - it woke me up and the muscle is still very tender today!!
Just the thought of the pain now make me feel sick!!
Yes I get it quite often .....all the time when I was pregnant .........as soon as you feel it .......stand on tiptoes or pull the leg out very straight and pull your toes towards you.
I sympathise ............I daren't stretch in bed as it will always bring on a leg cramp.

Thanks Skive. There is no specific treatment for it unfortunately. Two types of medication that have been developed for other illnesses have helped people with PN by lessening the pain to some degree but I wasn't one of them. It's progressive and it's now reached up my legs to my waist an has spread to my hands. I just hope that one day a drugs company will come up with a painkiller that targets it. But I suppose there's not much financial incentive for them. In the meantime I will carry on with sitting and sleeping with my electric fan on me.
i get terrible muscle cramping in my calfs at night, and its bloody painful and sore for a couple of days after too, a banana a day is good, something to do with the potassium in them, i eat one a day and only suffer night cramps occassionally now.

Also tomatoes and tomato juice, in fact anything with tomatoes in it and of course bananas.
