aww charmer that's awful. My OH had real bad tooth ache 2 weeks ago and was seen by an emergency service. You are only allowed to use it once if you are not registered with a dentist, I blabbed on the phone and said that he was registered but they couldn't fit him in, they agreed to see him and sorted it out. He has since found an NHS denstist and went today and had to have two back teeth out, he's in a lot of pain.

They are a pain coming and a pain going Frowner

In the case of dentists, about 14 years ago when my son was 16 and the dentist refused to treat him on the NHS. We changed dentists, and the new dentist actually locked my other son out so he could not attend his appointment. Then he was banned from NHS for not attending.

As to my own teeth, I live abroad and my dentist here was appalled at the state of my teeth. She could not believe British dentists were so bad. She had believed them to be the best in the world. I had a bridge across my front teeth which was so awful, she insisted on making me a new one. For nothing.

I got very little NHS treatment in the UK, because I smoked, hence the bad state of my teeth. I have now had to have all my top teeth out and wear falsies. I used to be very young and attractive-looking for my age. Now, I am a toothless hag.

Get thee a dental plan and go to your dentist!

Dentistry got pushed out of the main NHS structure... NHS dentists were then paid so little for their NHS work that for most it was just not viable for them to do it.

Since the recent reshuffles and PCTs etc Dentistry has been brought back into the NHS, with PCTs overseeing them.

I used to work for a PCT... I remember going to a Dentists surgery to give a very basic infection control/risk management talk, aimed at the reception staff... the actual dentist rang me the next day and asked me if I was serious when I said he should change his latex gloves between EVERY patient! Sick

I also used to receive the lists of complaints each month... the majority were dental ones (and some were absolutely horrendous).

I don't blame the dentists or their staff... it was the system and those governing it. Things are definitely improving now, the NHS is making it more viable for dentists to do their work, tighter controls have been introduced in terms of clinical governance.
