I don't do any baking - only really use it to make gravy!!

sounds like weevels - you'll need to make sure they haven't gotten into anything else (anything with a cardboard packaging) as they will move on

yeah they hatch out in old bags of flour ... little flour mites. When was the last time YOU did some cake making then?

the packet had been there a while and is used quite regularly and i have never noticed them in there before - that is what i don't really understand!!

Ive had them in flour before too, hope you spotted them before you made the gravy, not like me spotting them whilst cleaning kitchen up after the said gravy had benn used lol

I would buy smaller bags of flour or buy it in the plastic cartons from Homepride.
I have never had a problem with Homepride ever.

smaller bags and an air tight container is the way to go

I have to check the flour in my dads every once in a while and have done ever since I went to make pancakes one morning. I wasn't very hungry after I opened the flour.

I keep my flour, cornflour, etc in screwtop jars, and my pasta and rice in large glass containers with sealed lids.

Weevils. Chuck all that stuff out...flour sugar pasta etc and clean your cupboards thoroughly -hoover them and everything. Its easier to prevent getting them in the first place than getting rid of them once you have them if you see what I mean.

Even when binning the infested stuff you need to make sure they are in sealed bags and keep any dry goods in future in sealed containers too. When you hoover the cupboards wash out the hoover afterwards - a proper hot wash. They really are little ****ers and you have to think about killing at every step. When you scrub your cupboards throw away the sponge afterwards - in a sealed bag etc, you get me?

Goes to throw out bag of flour that's been in cupboard for ages

I used to work in a flour mill (many moons ago) but I'm sure the little weevils are still as common now as they were back then.. They really do just seem to appear from nowhere..
