I know I had a golden Labrador that was the spit of Marley and he died of cancer before he was 2. That film had me in bits.
I read the book and I was in tears. Gawd knows what I'd be like if I saw the film as well

I loved the book and I haven't (yet) seen the film. Do they manage to portray his dread of thunderstorms in the film? Because that was what I found one of the most moving things about the book, his panic at a storm and not being able to tell his humans why he was so upset.

The movie does show his fear of storms, squiggle. But it's done in a more lighthearted way than the book. During storms Marley is just a four-legged destruction machine!
The whole movie isn't all that sad, tbh. Just that last half hour WILL get you

Thanks evvival, I am looking forward to seeing the film, when it eventually gets onto Sky, but I am sure the book will be better.
I read the book two weeks ago, my OH came home and found me sobbing and sniffing in the garden sat on our garden swing. He was like whats up? I managed to say Marley died!
We own a staffy called Marley and my OH looked around saw our dog was ok and said what? I repeated he died! And now he's being buried bewteen two cherry tress, its so sad. OH said oh FFS I thought something was seriously wrong.. I was herat broken, don't think I could stand watching the film *sniff*

The animals pick up the anxiety from you. Thats how they know.quote:Originally posted by evviva!:quote:Originally posted by longcat:Mine would cry in the back of the car all the way to the vets. I have no idea how he knew.quote:Originally posted by evviva!:quote:Originally posted by gma:
My son acquired it a few months ago and the part where the dog jumps out of the car on the motorway and he/the bloke, holds his rear legs up is hilarious! a lighter moment of the film imo.
That was hysterically funny My 2 would have tried that too, if they weren't such short arses....they seemed to have a sixth sense if I was driving them to the vet's, and the pair of them would just sit there howling pitifully
There you go.....glad it's not just me who's barking I even tried DETOURS! But somehow they always knew

Thanks guys. I now know not to watch this film or read the book! I don't fancy the inevitable crying.
Can't speak for the film as I haven't seen it yet but if you don't read the book you are missing a treat, it was lovely and more tender than sad tbh.
Tender is enough to send me off!
The thing is though Marley did live a long and very happy life, that's OK and he was very much loved, anyway, your decision but I thought the book was great (and I am a great cryer, Dumbo always makes me sob, when his mum is chained up )
