Indeed, It should be fun! IMO if it gets to a point where it gets to you that badly, surely it's time to walk away. It appears to not only be online life that is taken to heart, but Big Brother too! The extremes some go to just to defend their chosen housemate! Eeker

ah, No need to ask how you got your title.

I wonder if there will come a day when everyone can ignore the trolls.

I think you have to look at the wider picture Nod

I started using the C4 forum at a period in my life when I was lonely, depressed and isolated. The people I got to know became "real" to me and I have to say a good few of them have stayed real and we've met up in RL.

Having said that I was new to forumming and vulnerable and easily led. I ended up in all sorts of crap progressing from vulnerable to ending up mixed up in the middle of a lot of nasty stuff.

I learned the hard way Smiler and now I can see things for what they are and not get involved any more. I can switch off and leave it for weeks at a time, or join in whenever I feel the need to say something.

A good few members in here use these forums as a means of socialising. If you don't go out very much, are on your own at home etc. then it is very much "real" and more than just words on a screen.

I don't really get that if I am honest. While I understand friendships may form, and then get taken into the real world, Ultimately they really are just words on a screen. At least you see it for what it is nowSmiler

couldnt give a stuff about anything said personally to me on this forum. It honestly makes me laugh.

But I have made quite a few well i like to think good friends through the forum (they may tell a different story Ninja Big Grin ) so if i fell out with one of them on the forum and they said something horrible that would be different.
but then....is that still classed as foruming, or falling out with your friend?

who knows...*too early for me to think*

I fell down some stairs once, and had a dent in my right cheek for two years. Smiler

I think what people forget is that although it's only "words on a screen", there is someone typing those words, someone behind the screen.

Yeah, I've been wound up by some of the things people say and many other times I just ignore it. I do know, for a FACT, that there are some super people on this forum, people who have been there when I needed them in RL, and most likely the same ones that most people would NOT call decent or caring.

I think you can go through a form of adolescence in forum life just as you do in real life.... things people say/type matter and can hurt... rush around the forum playground telling tales .. ganging up on people etc... then after a while you grow up (or at least get a measure of perspective) and become far more relaxed about the whole thing...and frankly don't give a toss what anyone says 'cept for those that have become real friends one way or another

Unfortunately, though, some people never grow up or out of it.
