And it's lovely.Big Grin It's a really new building so everything is all clean and modern. The rooms are all private and on suite, there's two birthing pool rooms and pretty much everything you could ever possibly think of to make you feel safe and comfortable for having a baby. Big Grin And it took us less than an hour to get there during rush hour, so the journey is better than we'd thought too. It's scared the life out of me though because it's all getting a bit real now but at least I'm really happy with the facilities on offer. Nod

Really pleased for you Hug I've read that you've had concerns about your midwives and stuff like that and now that you have that sorted and have seen where the bab is to be born, relax and try and enjoy the last few weeks.

Yes! I was dreading having to listen to someone screaming their heads off in labour. But thankfully it was very quiet. Laugh
I was quite relieved too because I thought I'd be a lot older than most of the other new mums but I reckon most of the other 12 women on the tour weren't far off my age. There was one girl who looked in her teens, a couple who looked in their 20's, but the rest of them were in their 30's and about three that looked in their late 30's like me. I was quite surprised by that.

Aww, I bet those 8 weeks have flown by? No, we don't know what we're having. We really wanted to but apparently the little darling is camera shy. Roll Eyes Big Grin

Flown by is not the word, blink and you'll miss it. Enjoy every minute! Although in saying that the first 2 weeks are tuff, but just hang in there cos it only gets easier! I didn't know what I was having, it was a big suprise cos I was convinced it would be a boy! aww real excited for you. There seems to be a huge baby boom at the mo so many of my friends are execting..! Or maybe its just because I just had one that I'm noticing it more! Have you a birthing plan, I notice you mentioned the birthing pools in the hospital you are going to, are you going to use 1?

My birth plan hasn't been done yet but I would really like to use the birth pool. I've had some trouble with my ante-natal care which has thankfully now been sorted. I was originally told I wouldn't be able to use the pool but now I have a consultant midwife and she says she can see no reason why not so far. Did you use one?

I didnt actually use one - I'm not really a water person, can do the doggy paddle at best! But I know someone who did and she swore by it - her baby's a few months old now and can swim under water and everything !! I think you should go for it!

No, I'm not allowed to go to that one because I'm higher risk and Hudds is a midwife only unit. Disappointed I have to travel further to get to the Calderdale hospital at Halifax, but tbh, it's a much better hospital, so I'm quite pleased now. Big Grin

Caldersale is a lovely hospital, in my experience. The staff are very nice and very professional, yet make you feel comfortable.

I'll give you one tip when it comes to a birth plan. Make sure the midwives listen to you.
Also sometimes when it's busy in labour wards they try & scare monger women into getting a c section to free up space. With little things like baby is sleepy etc... might be safer to section.
It's your decision & don't let them push you into unless it's necessary & baby is in distress.
This happened to me & four women in hospital I was in because of labour room shortages.

Best of luck Thumbs Up Hug

Eeker That's awful.Shake Head I think they have the opposite philosophy around here. Both Hudds and Calderdale hospital have midwife only birthing centres where they only offer natural birthing options. You can only have a C section if you are at Calderdale and you have to go to a separate unit for that where they have specialist midwives and doctors. All higher risk pregnancies like me are taken to the LDPR unit at Calderdale in case intervention is needed but they still encourage natural births unless they feel it's absolutely necessary. My birthing plan is being put together with the consultant midwife and she's really encouraging me to think positive and opt for a natural delivery using the birthing pool, balls, stools and ropes etc. The tour yesterday was brilliant and the midwives there seem lovely and very pro-mother. It's made me feel much more confident that I'll get the birth I want.
