I'm amazed that taxi fares cost that much in London!! Glad I live near the Second City. (apart from having to admit Lisa comes from the same area!!).

I asked my husband who is a private hire driver (minicab driver) how much he would charge for a two mile journey and it was just over a fiver, but private hire charge on mileage, and I expect rates are a lot different in London.
Where I live a 3 mile journey is Β£4, but then it takes 6 minutes LOL. It's the time it takes hun. That is why its double or even triple the fare in London.

It CAN take up to half hour to do that journey in Londinium ..

There's probably private cabby firms in the station, or there will be one nearby. But TBH they may well have a set fee similar to the black cab final price anyway. Its shocking how they rip people off here Shake Head

and not just cab fares!! the other week I was at Knightsbridge tube station and brought 1 can red bull (Β£1.75)small bottle of coca cola (Β£1.25)2 little harvest bars (75p each)..it came to Β£4.50!! I aint tight but I do think that is taking a liberty, and, while I am on the subject, Boots Chemist in Charing Cross Mainline Station is much dearer than the local High St Boots..

Indeedy Nod Do you know it costs me nearly 20 quid a day just to get into work? And that's only cos I have to go through zone 1 to get there! Thank God I can do a bit of a fiddle on the old expenses Ninja

I would take the tube for that journey anyway.

Victoria line north, change at oxford street then bakerloo north.

That's what I suggested, or a No.2 bus straight there from outside the coach station. But the lady has small children and luggage which would be a nightmare.

Thanks guys. I just wondered, coz I went in February, and was staying at a hotel in holborn, and when I tried to get a black cab from the station, they quoted me Β£15, which I thought was a pee take as it was 2 miles, and last summer, we got a cab from victoria to Kings cross and it was Β£20! SO does it depend who you use?

Nope they all take the Foreigners for a ride round London first. Laugh

Yea but some of them arent legal and pick up from the kerb. Mind you they only come out at night to my knowledge.

They're rife at night, I've been caught out a few times, but I reckon they moonlight in the day aswell. Best to always get one from a station or licensed designated cab organiser on the street.

One other idea is to try and do some research and find out some quotes from private hire firms, most should be able to quote you on such a journey over the phone and then pre book.
