I've just bought a new lappy with a trial version of Office 2007 and activated it. I'm wondering, is it worth buying after the trial has ended and is it the full price I would have to pay Thanks in advance of any replies I receive

Depends ... how much do you use Office, if it's a lot then yes, buy it, if not then no, stick with 2003.
Also, what do you use at work? If it's 2003 then stick with that, if it's 2007, you might want to buy that.
Full price? Never. You are a student, aren't you?
I much prefer Office 2007 - it's much easier

Open office is good to if you want a free full suite
Personally I think Microsoft Office 2007 is a waste of time ... it was a bit of a pointless upgrade IMO and there are very little extras that make it any better than the previous version ... I have it on my computer at home because it was the package that came with it, but I've found it a total nuisance when sending Word documents to people with earlier versions, as they can't open them ... they have to be saved as Word 2003 documents ...
The IT people in work spit everytime Office 2007 is mentioned ...

I've got 98 and 2007 and 98 was better IMHO

Hi Rexi, thanks for your reply. I was using '03' on old comp and use '07' at work. I didn't use it a lot but it was there if I needed it
Having said that I'm only just finding my way around '07'
I might have a look around and see what's available

You can download a free program that convets 2007 to 2003 - can't remember what it is though. We did that at work because it was becoming a bit of a pain

Haha - not quite
I've got a web cam, but don't know how it works
I've got a scanner, but it stopped working about a year ago and I can't get it going again
My computer was making a terrible noise when it started up, so I hoovered inside it and now it's worse
I'm a bit of a techno twit - if I had voice activated stuff it might do as I asked when I swear at it.
Do computers defecate?

Uh huh On the lowest setting. It was soooo dusty in there.
Was that a bad thing?

Not unless something other than dust got hoovered up I suppose ....
If it's still working, then I suppose it's no harm done ...

You need to use a can of compressed air
It's on its last legs, Shar - it was one of those 'nothing to lose' moments really

If you are using Office 2003 and try to open a 2007 file, if you are connected to the internet, you will be asked if you want to download a compatability pack, Select Yes and the pack should be downloaded and installed. 2007 files will now be automatically converted when you open them. When you close the file you will need to save it to preserve the conversion.
Here's a link to the Microsoft support document which goes into more detail.

as a spreadsheet genius, i wouldn't recommend open office as a substitute if you are going to use it loads. functionality is broadly similar, but there's a few quirks if you are a serious office user. however it is free which is always nice.
Microsoft have announced that there will be a lightweight online free version of Office when office 2010 launches next year.
