Modern times = wooden floors and bratish kids - seems like you`ve got a dose of both. I sympathise.
Ohhh... I've felt your pain..

I think children should be locked up in state institutions and not allowed out until they can behave in a civilised fashion.
Laminate flooring should be illegal unless you are in house that has both upstairs and downstairs.
It's useless in flats.

It doesn't matter what you have it's what the buggers upstairs have, bare floors ,fancy wood etc.get a bleedin' carpet down!
I'm ok my upstairs neighbour is a pensioner with laminate flooring,I do know when her family visit though, the noise level goes up,no insulation on bare floors.
Completely agree with you about the carpet, katty. We take our shoes off as soon as we come in, partly because we don't want to be noisy neighbours.

Seem to remember it's not just your shoes that you take off

Only my jacket and shoes in the hall - the rest, I wait till I'm in the living room

I agree with the 'lock them up until they can behave rule'
Are you sure the child's not there by itself.

I could hear its mother talking. Not that I lay down with my ear to the floor or anything

Apartments.
I've just had to go downstairs to the apartment below to pick up my elderly up off the floor and put her back into bed. Her legs barely work now, bless her. I dread the loud thump in case I go down and she's blue and twitching and in need of mouth-to-mouth.

Children should be in their beds by 8 o clock until they are 11.
12 - 16 they may be allowed up until 9 o clock. 17- 21 they should be made to get up at dawn and not be allowed to lie in bed until dusk.

someone needs a hug
When you have young children and a limited budget laminate flooring is a Godsend. There is no way I would consider carpets throughout for a good few years yet.
Sorry if your neighbours were a bit noisy for you, i'm sure in ny tenancy agreement it specifically states that acceptable noise includes footsteps, children playing and white goods.
I might be guilty of the child and the laminate combo (and living in a flat), however mine is tucked up in bed by 7.30 week nights and we're usually out most of the weekend.
If you're really bothered by it have a word with your neighbour. I'm sure they'll be reasonable.
