Sadly she is right in one repect, she is not the only one. The drinking culture of this country is shameful.
Why oh why do a lot of people think it is great fun to get so plastered that they do not know what they are doing.
The government should impose huge fines and curfews on anybody out on the streets who is incapable of walking straight (through drinking), and double it for pubs/clubs who allow their patrons to get in that state.
If Joe public can not regulate their drinking themselves, then somebody will have to do it for them.
But that would make this a Nanny country now wouldnt it? When does personal responsibility come into play?

People have been too lazy to take personal responsibility for quite some time. This is why the Labour Party has been so popular, because they will take responsibility for you.

"I think the judge was quite harsh on me. I was only expecting a one-month curfew but he's given me two. I also expected it to run from 8pm till seven the next morning. But it's from 8pm till 8am, so that's an extra hour.

What on earth was she going to do with that extra hour, the offy is still closed then!

Yep that's true.. alcoholism is a designated disease.

I have a friend who has applied for DLA for her seriously mentally disabled 6 year old daughter and she has been turned down because she doesn't have a diagnosis, she is now in the process of appealing. I must go and tell her that if she gets disgustingly drunk everyday she will get the DLA. This just sickens me.

Bonkers.. the whole thing is bonkers. I'm not saying alcoholism isn't a disease... hell fire I'd hate to be an alcoholic, awful condition.. but it's tits up innit.

I was talking to someone the other day and it transpired that, even after having an injury (through no fault of my own) which meant I couldn't even wash my own hair and was incapacitated, I'd probably get short shrift if I'd needed to claim DLA for that period.

i know loads of parents with disabled, special need children and most get refused the first time they apply for DLA (i was lucky and got it first time..but i used webistes to help fill the nasty form..i didn't have a diagnosis at the time i sent form either). most of them get it given to them after an appeal..i hope your friend does Hug

odd init? if you are an alcoholic you "have a disease" yet if you are a heroin addict you are a dirty scumbag smackhead?
see thats how they brainwash people into thinking there is a difference between the wet drug and other drugs, there aint, they are ALL drugs,
in fact alcohol is one of the most physicaly damaging and addictive,
still we cant have joe public thinking that can we?, cause then he might stop buying the wet drug and a multi billion pound revenue earning industry would loose money,
see they aint drug pushers,
either leaglise em ALL or criminalise em ALL, Nod

I am a recovering alcoholic and i hated the term disease, it made it sound as if it wasnt your fault and just one of those things that happens to people, it was to me a self-induced weakness that fooked up my life big time...and i mean fooked up.

my Brother IS an alcoholic, my Father WAS an alcoholic,
they call it a "disease" in an attempt to hide the fact that its an addiction to a drug,
seriously, no government would DARE call it an addiction openly
the drink cartel industry would go loopy and they have LOTS of power and influence in this country "other" drug dealers can only dream of having a tenth of that power, Nod

Of course being an alcoholic is an addiction..but put nicely as a disease.. So why is an addiction to say heroin, an addiction and not a disease? Confused

cause the drinks industry makes BILLIONS for the government, and they dont want people thinking alcohol is a drug....thats why they say "drink AND drugs" as if there is somesort of difference,
who do you think got the "rave scene" in the 80s n 90s shut down?
youngster were going "elsewhere" and not taking THEIR drug, in their millions, so "they" put preasure on the government, and now the kids all use the "right" drug on a weekend, Nod
