You're so right Lil. I gave up watching this programme ages ago because it used to make me so angry at the miserly amount these multi millionaires used to give lovely decent people. I know every little helps but when you think of it a million pounds is thousand thousand pounds.
I just knew by your one last night she was as tough as old boots. I would die of shame if I was in her shoes to hand over the miserly amount which she gave to that wonderful young man and the chap who was doing so much for the elderely and young.

To be fair, I think she will carry on supporting those charities. She agreed to be a trustee of one and was coming back for the opening of the Yoof Caffay.

there's an old black and white movie called 'the bishops wife' with the fab david niven and the handsome gary grant

dave niven is the bishop and prays for mega money to build a new cathedral

just then cary grant appears as 'an angel' in a bespoke suit

anyway there's this line in it where cary grant says 'why did you pray for huge amounts of money to build one house when the same money could build so many little houses'

my point being that needy as that sweet couple were - she should have given the biggest amount to the food run

what about the poor boy in the flat with only four walls , that told us his money goes on heating - if he can afford it and electricity

i think they should all donate to centres in every city to make sure people and kiddies have food

The young lad that ran the church food parcels deserves a medal he was such a lovely genuine bloke

They all keep posting massive profits and the goverment has talked about a 'windfall tax' on them , but this would be much better. I'd rather it was paid in as food to people who need it, rather than in yet more taxes to be abused by greedy MPs.

That was from my home town, although I live just outside it now. We recognised some of the people. My son and I were in tears.

It used to be a vibrant working city but with the descimation of the factories and boatyards( Thatcherism) its dying in a sense for the working class boy/girl/woman/man. Prolific for universities,invention, medicines, arts but nothing for the ordinary person who may not be quite as clever. Tesco/McDonalds is some their options.

i simply wanted to burst out crying - to the man in the street he looked like an ordinary young chap and yet behind closed doors he had
nothing and had to rely on the food run

i was shocked when the food run chap said that he had encountered people that hadn't eaten for a few weeks

i would suggest that even if the supermarkets had a donation bin to help these charities - it would be a start

obviously, in these climz people barely have enough to fill their own cupboards but i think people would rally and even donate 'the basics' from 'the basics' range

i mean they have one for pedigree chum - which is super but is it too non politically correct to have one for humans as well

i did note that the food run supplies were from tesco - so perhaps tesco were on board already

Yes, surely to god it would have been better to try and come up with some long-term support, but I think these progs are basically narcissistic PR exercises where for the price of a week's dog food and shoes she gets the warm furry glow of telly publicity.

I agree with you, they seem to be EXPECTING anyone with a camera crew to be the 'secret' millionaire, you can see them acting their reaction. Very strange and the format no longer works.

I wonder how much it cost to pay the camera crew and production staff? Helluva lot more that seven chuffing grand. Maybe the truly altruistic would have given so much more ON THE QUIET.

Yes Thatcher`s damage has been done, not only in Dundee. They chose ONE of the worst parts of Dundee but there are many more just the same. Housing schemes, and there ar many here, are rife with the same problems. One millionaire, however much it is appreciated, will never fix it..it`s a sorry mess.

I love watching the moment when they deliver their news. It's not the reactions but the way they say it that I find interesting. It's very hard to do it gracefully and most fail.

It's all very telling.

They should get some MPs to do it. It wouldn't matter how much they dished out as they could claim it all back on expenses.
