I did Mo Mowlam, and a few others,
Oona King is another one I admired.

did you now?
I want to, but they never have debates and it always falls into politcal point scoring. Question Time could be quite good, but just as it gets interesting, one of them makes a dig - and I turn off .
Yes, but I couldn't eat a whole one.
Yes! Anyone with a bit of flair and independent thought. It doesn't matter which party they belong to.
i dont move in their circles they are all about the same
very few. There are people from the past I admire, Churchill for his war time leadership, Bevan and Atlee for their creation of the NHS, but very few modern politicians appeal to me. I think that politicians once had a genuine sense of public service whereas now they just seem like careerists!
I have never got to know in any depth what a politician is REALLY like. We have the public persona, the party line, the spin and the sound bites (bytes) from which we can glean an opinion, albeit superficial. In a lot of cases they meld into a 'type' for me.
Perhaps I should put these political figures under more scrutiny - but I can't seem to find the motivation.

Some of them, yes. Tony Benn, Cyril Smith, Dennis Skinner, Mo Mowlam...Charles Kennedy always seemed like a likeable sort and William Hague seems like a decent bloke too. I can't say I particularly like Ann Widdecombe or her politics but I do admire her. That said, there are an awful lot more out there who I don't like.
I have to, my uncle is an English MP and I have a couple of friends here at home who are....

William Hague is my parent's MP and whilst I would never vote for the tories I have to say that he is an OK guy. I think that you are the first other person on here to agree with me.

I don't like his politics so I would never have voted for him but I respect the fact that is a proper politician with real political understanding and skills. Personally, I think he comes across as a fundamentally honest and sincere man.
