Tell me about it, Ditty. She had to have 2 steroid shots to sort her out.
You would think, wouldn't you, that this would have taught her to mind where she stuck her nose in future? But, no, when we passed that hedge again - she dived straight back in like a shot
My dogs have always been....errrmm...cerebrally challenged

Hahahaha... my dog is the same. He's allergic to bee stings. Affects his central nervous system (his back legs 'went' for 3 days last time he was stung). You'd think he'd avoid them... oh no.
All summer, I can be heard shreiking like a fishwife... Nooooooooo.. no no no... as the dog chases bee's around the garden!
Prob is next time he's stung its likely to be a more severe reaction... we have to have piriton nearby all summer. Thankfully he doesn't have the 'swell up' reaction that alot of people do... but all the same. He is sooo stupid!

I dunno why but I now have visions of a dog 'approaching' a frog and getting spat at for asking it something inappropriate.
scary innit?
is he up to date with tetnus jabs? seriously, you need to ahave them for dog bite.. would not blame either by the way, other than the owner of the loose staffie that is..quote:Originally posted by Dirtyprettygirlthing:
so, hubby took the dog out this morning.
Came back with two massive puncture holes in his forearm... bleeding all over the place.
Apparently, our dog (on the lead), had met up with his floozy Border Terrier girl dog and they were nuzzling, wagging and generally licking each others bits in a frenzied delight. Then came an off the lead Staffie, which was also all waggy waggy.
However, my dog was not happy about this and went all Kujo. My hubby was trying to pull our dog back away from the loose staffie, which had finally decided "oooh you want some do ya?" and was snarling back. By this time our dog was virtually foaming at the mouth, so when they nearly got to each other, hubby stuck his arm inbetween the two dogs!
DOH!!!!! Our dog accidently sunk his teeth into his arm.
Am I wrong to feel sorry for my dog, rather than my husband?

Yes, normally I'd be livid about the loose dog owner. It does drive me mad, and is the cause of so much stress when I am out with the dog.
I'm a bit sympathetic with this one though, cos the lovely lady who was walking the staffie lost her own dog in the autumn. Her dog was an elderly black lab bitch, and was always off lead, and posed no danger to anyone.
This lady was heartbroken when she lost her. Today was the first time she's been seen with this staffie... its her son's apparently. I think she just hadn't realised that it was a different dog, and the problems that could occur.

It's your hubbie I feel sorry for, he was only trying to stop your mutt biting off more than he could chew! And by that I mean a big, tough Staffy, not a human arm

Frogs can be dangerous, with proper venom and everything One of my girls once stuck her nose into where she had no business sniffing. She was bitten (do frogs "bite" ) and her face swelled up to 3 times bigger.
She was poorly for nearly a week afterwards.
More likely to have been a toad I should imagine. They are very poisonous.
Awh poor both of them has your hubby had his arm looked at yet?
And does the dog seem shaken my little cocker spaniel constantly picks fights with dogs bigger than her (it used to be ok because she used to have a giant labrador stood by her side with a dont mess with me bark to counteract her little yappy I'm gonna get you bark) now the dogs bark back and she hides behind whoever is walking her's legs. Still messes her up though and shes all shaky for the rest of the day.

My husband was stung by a bee last Saturday and has had a really bad reaction.
They'd built a nest inside the airbrick in our porch and my husband was stung on the shin. He shrugged it off (as is his wont) but, by Sunday his leg had swollen up to twice its size and he had a cluster of blisters!
He hasn't been to a doctor since he was 4 years old (doesn't believe in them) but he did go to our local pharmacy on Monday evening, albeit reluctantly, to get some dressings as the blisters had begun to ooze this horrible pus.
The pharmacist refused to recommend anything as it was so badly infected and told him he had to go and see his GP - the pharmacist rang the surgery to get him seen immediately. The GP has now given him strong antiobitics and anti-histamine capsules plus plenty of dressings.
Managed to get a pest control company to come out this afternoon to do the necessary treatment so fingers crossed the bees will depart within the next 3 hours now.

In the circumstances ditty I think it might be wise to either go to A&E or to see your GP.
Nip it in the bud rather than allow any infection to set in.
get hubby up to the docs quick....if it gets infected he won't be able to do the cooking, cleaning, washing up etc......save yourself!!!!!

So... about an hour ago I said I thought he should go down the walk-in clinic... it had only just really stopped bleeding... and I thought better safe than sorry, and danger of infection etc... best go get it checked out.
As soon as I said that.. he says he's not going!!!
He had been doing a bit of interweb research though... and was aware of the need for up to date tetanus, and possibly antibiotics.
I keep switching between feeling really bad that I wasn't more sympathetic to begin with, to being frustrated he won't just go get it looked at.
Suppose I have no choice but to wait til morning... if I am in any doubt about it tomorrow I will put the wifey foot down and frogmarch him down there myself!
(The dogs now totally fine! )

Look on the bright side - if he gets lockjaw, at least you won't hear him moaning

Bet he can still snore though!

aww ditty, seriously, if its taken all day to stop bleeding he might need some stitches too, and believe me once those bugs get in they multiply like mad. Please don't take any chances, make him go now
Or offer to stitch it for him, that should make him shift..
Aw Laydees
I have tried... I think I've pushed it as much as I can (he's on the verge of getting snotty with me).
The holes have been flushed out, antiseptic'd and one of them has a steristrip on it, prior to dressing.
And if I had my way he'd go down there tonight... but he won't go.. not tonight! I am kicking myself a bit, I should have got him down there earlier when he was still in a bit of shock.

They're so bloomin' stubborn aren't they ditty?
My hubby wouldn't go to the doctor after the bee sting became infected - not until I lost my temper and insisted he at least go to the pharmacy.
At least you've steri-stripped it which is holding it together.
What dressings are you using? Do you have Mepore?

Asda's own brand low adherant dressing!
We have quite a well stocked first aid box... the steristrips usually get used on me (veg chopping accidents!)
