I just hope he lives up to his hype, over the years I have heard it all before about various british tennis players. I believe he upset a lot of people when he said he would be supporting Uraguay(sp) when they were playing England at football. I couldn't give a rats ar##, it didn't bother me, but I guess if you were an English footballer then they might have taken it personally

It doesn't matter anyway, he can have that opinion, I just don't understand what makes him think that he should have the support.

I don't think anyone ever claimed him to be English did they ?
No, he made sure of that.
He doesn't like the English - he made it patently clear when he hoped any team other than England win in the world cup a few years back.
Not the way to win friends and influence people is it?
Funny how he's now bought himself a house in Surrey though!! Not too proud to own a house in England is he?

Yep agree with you cologne, he doesn't give a crap if he offends peeps, so why should they give a crap and support him. To be honest I haven't watched one set of Wimbledon this year, I am normally glued to it, have no idea why I have no interest in it this year.

I didn't understand that, but I'm pretty certain he's not good enough to beat Federer.
I'm just wondering what a 'losser' is or maybe the OP meant 'loser'.
oh god hes a right moaning minnie saw him moaning about the roof being shut get over yourself curly tots

But like you said that was a few years ago. Can't people let it go? It just seems a bit silly to bring that up all the time.

What? He`s Scottish and plays for Britain.
Not in Wimbledon, he doesn't
Someone ought to tell all those union jack waving crowd's then lol
And thats my point, the scots dont want us English to support him, we're not allowed.
Ok then, have it their way.
I like Andy Murray for the very reasons people dislike him.
He's in the game to play tennis...not to make friends or charm the worlds press.I admire his single mindedness.Perhaps if Tim Henman had shown a bit more tenacity and focus he might have won Wimbledon. He was certainly a quality grass court player and with the right breaks might just have done it.I also believe that its a matter of time before Murray wins a grand slam.
People may not like him,but suggesting hes mediocre is unfair. He's beaten both Nadal and Fed this year. His ATP ranking speaks for itself
1 Nadal, Rafael (ESP) 12,735 0 18
2 Federer, Roger (SUI) 10,620 0 17
3 Murray, Andy (GBR) 9,230 0 21
4 Djokovic, Novak (SRB) 7,860 0 23
5 Del Potro, Juan Martin (ARG) 5,730 0 23
6 Roddick, Andy (USA) 4,310 0 23
7 Simon, Gilles (FRA) 3,970 0 28
8 Verdasco, Fernando (ESP) 3,620 0 24
Only time will tell if he will be great,of course. But I do enjoy watching him and the fact he's from home shores just gives the match some extra interest

me neither I get the impression he's focussed on one thing and that's being a world champion (as he should be as that's what makes a world champion) whether it's this year or next or the next. I like that he doesn't give a stuff about pleasing the media or public in general. why should he? his job is to win tennis matches and so far he's doing a grand job of that.

Yep.He's already won 9 masters and been in the final of the US open. The next step is a Grand Slam title

So why was he trying to work the crowd on Monday & yesterday?
support?? atmosphere of the tennis game? there's a difference between enjoying hte support of the genuine tennis fans and playing to the public in general. Many seem to dislike him that's up to them I for one think he's a young guy to be proud of and is far more talented than any of these BB oiks we spend our time watching/discussing.

So he wants support but he doesn't :boggle:
Have to say, the loud group of lads he was focusing on didn't seem like yer average LTA folk to me
I don't doubt that he's talented, btw, but the insistence that we should all support him (from certain folk) just because he's Scottish, and the constant inflation of his ability grates on my nerves
(I think you can count on one hand the number of BB related posts I've made, btw )

I didn't watch the game so don't know about specific moments between him and the crowd, I know in general he doesn't like being interviewed and playing the media game which is his business I would imagine he might interact differently with tennis fans which is what you are alluding too, I just think people like to knock him when I like his focus and anger. And don't take it personally I don't know what your comments are about BB people I am just saying for once it's a talented young guy who has devoted his life to learning a craft. good on him

Some professional sportsmen just happen to like the roar of the crowd, it motivates them.
I see it all the time at football matches with the players encouraging the crowd.
I just love watching tennis.
I love watching someone who has passion for what they do and Murray has passion.
IF, ( and it is IF), he reaches the final, which i really hope he does, then i'm going to be in a quandary as to who i will want to win.
My loyalty is of course to a british player but at the same time i would love to see Federer get the 15 titles.
There's still the semi's to get through and Roddick and Haas are no pushover's.... no matter what, Tennis win's as it's been a wonderful Wimbledon this year.

Well as a few people have already said, if he WINS, the Scottish will very typically say he is Scottish, and if he LOSES, they will say he is British.quote:Originally posted by Scotty:quote:Originally posted by storm:

You don`t know the Scots if you believe that.
We`re a patriotic nation..not fickle.
Yes of course I`m proud that a Scotsman is in the semi final, I`m Scottish, but I look at him as playing for Britain.
I`m sure the Irish, Welsh and English would feel the same about their fellow countryman. It`s natural.
I encouraged Henman all the way when he was doing well and felt disappointment when he failed.
I wanted a Brit to win..like I do Murray.
Comprende noo?
Disagree totally. I have heard many Scots say that they don't care what team wins, as long as it is not England. And they don't care what nationality wins any sport, as long as it is not someone English. The Scottish hate England to win anything. Certainly in my experience anywayquote:Originally posted by Scotty:
