but they are meant to be more noble than us, make huge decisions about the economy and about leading us into war... oh.. hang on...

Who said they're meant to be more noble than us? Where is that written ........in the grand scheme of things they don't earn a fraction of those high up in industry/banking/finance etc. - that doeasn't excuse anything I know but .............if it's in their remit to claim expenses the ..........surely they will.

How are MP's nobler than the common man?

The thing that gets me is they get paid roughly ÂĢ60,000 a BBC news reader gets ÂĢ92,000 - that to me is just wrong!!!

I saw that interview where the MP asked what the news reader earned. I too was shocked. I didn't even know who she was! Laugh

that's what i thought - imagine what the ones who we actually know are earning - to me when you look at it like that MPs are grossly underpaid!!

Exactly what I thought aswell....

There are millions more gp than MP's so why not get the message across to MP's by not voting next time they have a chance to, that would say far more than anything else to get the message across. Silence often says more than a thousand words. Will it happen? of course not, people are programmed and like sheep most of the time.

I said words to that effect on another page Yellow^^^ Smiler

With respect, the power people have is in the vote, not withdrawing the vote. If no one votes, everything stays the same.

I think this sorry debacle will bring more people to the polling stations, it's something that has enraged many people and for once the man in the street who may have been apathetic about casting a vote, is now motivated to put his X behind someone.

or, alternatively, the newsreaders are overpaid. Nod

I digress.

I would like to think that should I be in their position, I would not abuse this expenses privilege. Not all the MPs have, so some appear to have slightly higher morals than others.

if i were active in poltics, it would be because i have passion and belief that i could offer something to society and it's people. i would make expense claims, but my inner self would be screaming, "just cos i can doesn't mean i should" "this could be helping to fund a worthwhile cause"
i'm one of those dumbass honest types, my opinions change, but my principles always remain the same.
