Kept trying to cut down, ration the things. Never worked.
Finally just cold turkeyed. ?12 years ago or so. Never went back.

Strangely not.
That Mrs O one still puffs away now and again (in the garden, rain or shine
) but I've never been tempted to raid her stash.She has the annoying ability to have 3 or 4 of an evening and leave it at that: whereas I know that if I started again I's be back up to 2 packs a day in an instant
BTW I shouldn't have started this thread 'cause it gives the ciggy some importance...drat

I went from approx 30 B&H to rolling my own (as it were) I found these not to be as addictive, and rather like that Mrs O one, if I can paraphrase her, can have two or three a night pet mebbees if I'm drinking like.

Well done! You ditched that foul habit! You won't smell like an ashtray anymore! The only people who enjoy kissing a smoker or being within 3 yards of them is other smokers. Foul stinky vile habit

I went cold turkey 5 weeks ago, for about a fortnight then I went out! Only smoking now when I have a drink, although starting to develop a drinking problem I am still really pleased because after five weeks I have saved loads of money, stopped smoking for five days out of seven and everytime the weekend comes around I am getting less and less inclined to have one. Good luck all quitters!

I'm still trying to convince my mum to quit. She says she will in July, when they set the new shifts. I have my doubts as she has been saying she will for 6 months.

I quit a 30 a day habit 13 years ago and I would never go back. I remember deciding to quit, I was sitting on a scabby old sofa that we'd bought second hand and wishing we could afford a new one, then it occurred to me that the reason we couldn't afford a new sofa was that I was setting fire to about ÂĢ40 a week. I can't stand being around other smokers now, they stink.

Well done all of you...done it more times than I can remember for several years at a time...but back on them now 
I smoke ÂĢ80 a weeks worth, have smoked since I was 13 and never taken the smoke properly down (true smokers will know what I mean) I puff and blow out, so why can't I give up.

I gave up four years ago. Then started again but only had one or two when stressed. Stopped again just over a year ago but still crave one every now and then. My OH stopped one day about four years ago and never had or wanted another.
