For the sake of argument, and I know this is a horrible subject, what's the objection to carrying out the death penalty on her if it happened next week?

I have a visceral disgust at capital punishment myself anyway but it's the pregnancy aspect that's significant. It feels very, very wrong to carry out the punishment on a pregnant woman, I mean more wrong that capital punishment itself. But why?

If she's 5 months pregnant then that's about the maximum time doctors in the UK are willing to carry out an abortion. In what way is this actually morally different with respect to the child?
