Some because their crimes are so unacceptable that life should mean life and some because the impulses that led them to commit the crimes can never be neutralised by punishment, therapy etc

I

Totally agree.

Have to confess, I would probably let out a lot of criminals if they weren't a danger any more.

My only concern is that they should be treated equally, and not just because they've got some kind of 'celeb' status as with Ronnie. Bless him, he obviously isn't a danger anymore, but that could go for lots of guys incarcerated for life.

The thing is, imagine that this person has murdered someone you love and is jailed. He serves some time in jail and then because he is old and deemed not capable of harming anyone now, he is released. How would you feel? I would want the person who did that crime to remain in jail for the rest of his/her miserable life. That may not bring my loved one back, but it would certainly be justice for them.

In all honesty he is not being released because he is un repentant. He is/was an extremely arrogant man in his time .................repugnant to me.

If this is the only reason that he isn't being released then my guess is he's playing cocky/ha ha I'm the man stuff still. even though he's behind bars, aged and obviously ill he still wants to play the big I AM.

Let him rot IMO. A bit of humility never did anyone any harm.

Yes, in those circumstances, I would have no mercy... although I have heard of relatives of victims who have found it in their hearts to forgive. I guess you never know unless it happens ... and hopefully we'll never be in that situation. Hug

People that can forgive in those circumstances, are incredible people. I really don't know if I could, but as you say you never know and thank god I have never had to go through that.

He's not innocent! He took part in the robbery, and it wasn't cos he loved trains...it was because he knew an ex train driver, who it turned out, couldn't drive the diesel ones.

I think he should be let out now, waste of taxpayers money to keep him in, if he'd of abused a kid, or stabbed an innocent kid in the street, he'd of got half the sentance he recieved. I don't blame him for escaping when faced with 30 years in jail.

He just wanted to go on holiday to Brazil too but they thought he'd escaped and made a big thing of it so he couldn't come back. Poor Ronnie. Frowner
