Nice to see you. I did say 'hello' in the CDWM thread but I guess I missed you as I came in at the tail end.

That's OK Marguerita. Hug

Do you know how much she gave the chap who ran the centre?
Seven and a half thousand pounds but I feel she will keep in touch with all of them and could possibily give them more help if they need it Smiler

Thanks, I saw that bit, my V+ box cut off just as she was going back to revisit him and see what he'd done. I was 'Nooooooooooo!'

I`ve cut and pasted my post from lil`s thread with additions.

That was from my home town, although I live just outside it now. We recognised some of the people. My son and I were in tears.

It used to be a vibrant working city but with the descimation of the factories and boatyards and apprenticeships( Thatcherism) its dying in a sense for the working class boy/girl/woman/man. Prolific for universities, invention, medicines, arts but nothing for the ordinary person who may not be quite as clever. Tesco/McDonalds are some their options or call centres where they are treated like numbers.
The drug problem is rife..young people destined to a life of garbage. I see them on the street everyday..for such a small city it`s overwhelming..the change in my home town is beyond belief.

The Hilltown area where some of the programme focused on used to be a community that looked after each other, in the old fashioned can I borrow a cup of sugar sense. Now it is drug ridden. My close friend from Edinburgh naively bought a pub there. It was her biggest mistake. It was robbed every week. Most of the people who frequented it are now dead, through Aids..needle sharing etc. Such a tragedy.

Sorry not read whole thread, but what about the kid in the fire damaged flat? She coulda given him twenty nicker for a leccy token or summat?

It's all a bit self-indulgent tho, these people throwing a couple of quid around on the telly. And you can tell from the get-go, half the folk are thinking, "Bingo! Some dude with a camera crew in the old folk's home, it's the Secret Millionaire, look oppressed!" The way they try to act their reaction is cringe-making. Except the Poles, but that was because they were Polish and had no telly Wink
