Blimey. There's plenty more jobs losses to come yet across the country, I reckon. Hundreds of thousands over the next 12 months.
One of them might be mine too. It must be nice to have job security, I haven't had that for nearly 10 years. I doubt with Gordon's legacy that I'll have it for the next 10 either.

My step-dad's business does a lot of contract work for them, especially at the Rotherham and S****horpe sites. I imagine there'll be a knock on effect for him and his men too.
They censored S****horpe!!
Corus have let so many go this year and its getting closer and closer. I hate this bloody recession.quote:Originally posted by Queen of the High Teas:quote:Originally posted by longcat:

It also affects 3 in the Midlands
I hate the recession too, just when things seem to be picking up a little you hear of more job losses. It's really horrible.

The North East has been in one long recession since 1979 IMO. A great shame, since we are sat on billions of pounds worth of fuel.
I expect this will go on and on until the Russians turn your gas off, and then it will be too late. All those of us who can make gas, petrol, and chemicals from coal will be long gone.

The sixties were a good decade for the NE, but it started to go down rapidly from 1970
Oddly enough I was in Redcar on Tuesday. It's dead on it's arse. Only Bog knows what effect the extra 2000 will have.
Corus also mothballed one of its plants in Wales earlier this year.

My hubby is an industrial chemist, now working for a middle eastern petro-chemical company. A lot of the chemical industry is dying over here as a result in the decline of the northern industrial areas. Companies have been downsizing over here and moving to Holland and Germany because they have better supporting industries in place.
There's loads of people on our place (logistics)that are undere redundancy notice - it's horrible

Indeed! All of the trad industries were linked. It's not all bad news though, when I was in the Redcar Marx and Sparx queue for reasonably priced polo shirts, I mentioned to the lady behind me that bonuses were being paid again in the London Banking sector. This cheered her up no end.
