I posted this in another thread (have just copied it coz I'm too lazy to re-type it)....makes me Mad

The trouble is Towno, I suspect Labour will get in again near me, there are lots of people who get too many benefits for nothing to vote them out....

...I want to know what 'they' are going to do for me...single female, no kids, in full-time employment on an average salary (just above minimum wage)..I pay for everything, prescriptions, private dental care, the lot...I can't afford to get on the property ladder etc...nothing I guess!!!!

I have nothing about people getting benefits if they are genuine BUT, the whole system stinks IMO, I know people who have never worked and have a better lifestyle than I do....Shake Head

ah so its LABOURS fault, I cant wait till will live in this Tory "utopia", cause SOME of us remember what it was like last time they were in power, sure scroungers piss me off, but nowhere NEAR as much as MPs fiddling HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of pounds a year of TAX payers money, OR my taxes being used to build nuclear weapons and submarines or to finance an illegal war, cause if all those things were stopped ya might see a reduction in your taxes, if everyone on benefits got a job tommorrow, ya wouldnt see ANY difference, Shake Head

I' not saying it's ALL Labours fault, I'm simply saying that the whole Benefits system need a complete overhaul! Nod

but what CAN they do? ya cant FORCE people to work if they dont want to, and ya cant starve em to death,
I remember a while back when I was in one of my many periods of claiming the dole they proposed to make the long term unemployed "work" for their benefit by doing work in the community, I for one was outraged and swore that I would never do this, as its the same work they FORCE criminals to do as a punishment, and I was unemployed NOT a criminal,
I have also (before the minimal wage AND under the tories) found myself working and being worse off than being on the dole, in fact I gave up the job and went on the dole and was better off!!
at the time if you worked you got NO help no matter how low your income, I was single and earning a take home pay of just under ÂĢ100 a week, take off the rent, the poll tax (as it was then) my travel to work costs food etc, and every week was a struggle just to even afford the bus fare to work, trust me IF the Tories get back in those times will return, they will scrap the minimal wage and working tax credits, all the employment rights that have been gained under labour will be removed,
whatever the answer is, its not the Tories returning,
Cool

the thought of THAT LOT getting back in scares the hell out of me,
I have just gone self employed, and am still at the setting up stage and my only income is ÂĢ80 a week working tax credits (not even that at the moment cause they have just stopped it cause I have changed address, it only took 3 months to sort it out last time)
this self employment course I took was set up under labour, you can bet your ass the Tories will scrap such courses,
I am not a big fan of "new" labour but at least they have done something to help people like me,
god help the sick and the low paid and the old if/when THEY get back in Nod

The Devil In Diamante
I have not worked for 8 years unfortunately because of my illness I would love to be able to work as I miss it ,I have two private pensions and get taxed quite a lot on these I may not be working through no fault of my own, but I am still paying my taxes which are too high in my opinion but I keep being fobbed off by the tax man saying I am paying what I should, I do get annoyed with people who abuse the system and do not want to work.

We're both in a similar situation Marguerita and I also pay an inordinate amount of income tax each year.

Sometimes I wonder why I was more frugal in my youth and saved wisely for the future and making pension investments as it certainly hasn't done me any favours by doing so in the long run.

I have always worked and paid income tax on my earnings plus on my savings but, even though I retired early due to ill health, I am still being taxed to the hilt on the monies I saved to secure my future.

I do ask myself who is the most clever? Those who scrounge and get everything handed to them on a plate or those like me and you who worked and paid their way and yet are still penalised?

Hug Hyacinth it is so unfair and I agree with everything you have said we save for our future but it does seems the more independent we try to be the more we get penalised it does not make sense Hug
