We run this community for a huge variety of reasons...we love Big Brother and pop culture in general, we hated to see such a large community just evaporate (we've been doing this for a long time, and we know how hard it is to build such a large group). We have been a business for more than 10 years, with customers running lots of different communities on our software and hosted applications. Fortunately, that enables us to run "fun" things when we want, on our own dime.
As Ted has alluded to, we also have some very very cool things rolling out soon, which we'll share with this community. It's good to "eat your own dogfood" (don't know if that expression translates, but it means "use your own products"). That's the best way to know if it's easy to administer/use or a total pain in the you-know-what.
