Just to let you know that we took the cat to the vets today at 10am and she diagnosed cystitis as the cause of the bleeding. The vomiting she thought was due to her kidneys which warranted a blood test so she took the cat away. When they didn't come back within a little while I just knew that something bad had happened.
My poor little cat had suddenly froze, collapsed and turned blue. When we were able to see her she was breathing rapidly, the vet had given her oxygen and was about to give her valium. We were allowed to stay with her but no amount of coaxing would bring her round so eventually we were told to go home, she would be kept in a darkened room and they would monitor her and ring me later in the day.
At about 2 o'clock the vet rang to say there was no improvement and she had her in an oxygen tent and was rehydrating her. I rang at 3 o'clock thinking she wasn't going to make it and I wanted to see her one last time but miraculously she had started to improve and we were able to collect her at around 5.30pm.
When we went to get her we were told that her blood pressure was very high when they had tried to take the blood (which was due to the stress) but had dropped way below normal after she collapsed and that was why she was taking so long to recover. They do not know if all the trauma of today will have any long term affects and that we should get in touch asap she should collapse again or stop breathing.
The vet said that occasionally they come across the problem of cats collapsing in this way but they always come round between 5-10 mins, she said that what happened today to my cat is unheard of before. She will never be allowed another blood test and this will be firmly noted on her records.
At the moment she is still very sleepy and isn't interested in even a sip of water so we are keeping her quiet and just delighted to have her back.
