Is anyone a member? I seem to be the only person I know who thinks it's a bad idea to put your child's name, photos, date of birth, hobbies, favourite toys, geographical location etc on a freely accessible public site like Facebook. Surely this is like a database for weirdos to pick up everything they need to know about young kids.

I am a member Queenie, but would never put any info about my children, my eldest son won't even accept me
im not a mumm yet but when i have children i would never put any pictures of them on the net, doesnt seem right to me
My best friend has joined today and put her sons full name, dob, location etc on. I'm really surprised at her doing this but she seems to think it's safe. I just feel a bit odd about it tbh.
As long as they don't have bank accounts yet.

I'm on face book as I have family all over the globe and we keep in touch regularly. My two sons are grown up now so don't mind adding me to their 'friends' list, lol.
I am totally against putting details of ANYONE under 16 (I'd even prefer 18). My neighbour made a fully detailed Facebook page for her FIVE year old daughter, complete with about 20 cutesy photos
As I'm a very delicate person ( ) , I told her that there were probably already a number of wronguns out there who had, lets say, 'enjoyed themselves' whilst looking at her daughters pictures. She did remove it thankfully.
Some people just don't think it through... and others are just plain stupid

Everyone already knows every bloody detail about your kid...
I wouldn't join anything like that, how can we tell our kids about the danger of the internet if we are posting pictures of our children all over the place.
Just had a direct reply from someone on Twitter about this saying that users have great privacy settings so it's ok to put info up as it's not accessible to all. The message came from somebody in the States who's profile says he's a single man with no kids. I'm not saying he has any ulterior motives but it's not exactly allayed my concerns.
I have never heard of it
I don't mind showing pics of my child to people though.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be more than happy to show people pics of my child but I wouldn't put those pics up on a public site together with all of that other personal info. Maybe my hormones are making me paranoid.

I wouldn't either and I'm not hormonal (much). When people go on this site can they grab these pictures and reproduce them?

I wouldn't give out any of her info but I have shown her to a select few on here Just her first name is known

I've seen her and she's gawjuuus. I'm not worried about the pictures so much, it's the fact that it could allow people to actually find the children if they wanted to. CoM's has the kids full names, D.O.B., hobbies, photographs and geographical location. It wouldn't take a genius to work out from that which school they went to etc. I'm not saying weirdos couldn't get that info from other places but I just think it's a bad idea to put all of the info together, it feels like a public database.
I know what you mean Queenie. Seems tres dodgy. Ooh and thanks for the baba compliment. I think she is gawjuss too
I will not put certain information on me or my children on the internet. Once something is on the internet its there forever even if you remove it.
That is why I'm not on Facebook. Goodness I'm bad enough on here when it comes to preserving my anonymity. (I would never divulge anything too personal) I would never dream of posting ANY photos of myself or anyone I know - least of all my children - on the internet.

Someone has put something up about my son on FB. It's on the part which everyone can go to. I keep trying to get it removed but I am having no luck. I am now up to threatening them with a solicitor
If you put your childrens DOB and name on the internet, once they reach 18 someone can come along use those details for financial gain and your child will be paying for the rest of their lives....

I think putting up childrens details on a public site is a bad idea too,QOHT.
I have my son on mine, and as it has his full name and school,I've made my friends list private. My girls refuse to add me!
I do like being nosey and looking at peoples kids/homes,etc tho!But sadly there are sickos out there who will go to any lengths to get access to the most innocent and turn it into something depraved

can't believe this - totally agree with you
You're not the only one
I agree, i will not put my childrens pics on the internet or their details.
I have told my daughter too WHEN IF she goes on a chat room (a childrens one when older)not to use her name and make something up. I am very internet consious on things like that.
I have known of someone who we all knew for years on a forum and she turned out to be a compulsive liar and had lied about something very traumatic which we found out when someone phoned to say how sorry they were...blew me away..i'd been talking with this person for years, certainly knocked the trust side of chatting on forums.
