Davina McCall has revealed that Channel 4 reality series Big Brother is coming to an end.

The presenter, who has hosted the show since it started back in 2000, said: "It's definitely only got two years left."

This year's Big Brother will be the 10th anniversary series of the show and it is believed that Channel 4 will not renew its current contract when it runs out next year.

The new series, which begins later this month, faces an uphill struggle for viewers as last year's Big Brother had the lowest-ever viewing figures.

Audiences for the 2008 series averaged just 3.2 million viewers, while critics claimed that the show had lost its spark.

Im sorry but 3million viewers is still decent enough.... What they need to do is revamp the show and attract new viewers not put the same old wannabe wags who just want to look cute on tv for their potential 15mins of fame.

Here here and that's three million every night in the summer when viewing ususally dips anyway.

Exactly, people spend most of their time outdoors in the summer and there are more programme options so 3million is still decent enough.

Alas:-

Big Brother chiefs are considering putting a "serial WAG" in the house this summer, a report claims.

According to the Daily Star, 29-year-old Jill Demirel attended an invites-only audition for the Channel 4 reality series in February. She is now said to be on the final shortlist for the forthcoming tenth series. Roll Eyes

Gosh when will those dimwits at the top learn? The ratings dived when they insisted on putting wannabe page 3 wags on the show. Roll Eyes

Nah, someone will buy the show. It's too good for it just to end. ITV could probably use it to boost their ratings a bit.

I don't think ITV have that sort of cash right now.

sadly I think sky would be the front runner which means I wouldn't see it anayway.
I dont think BB is that expensive to produce do you?

Well once the inital costs have been recovered ( building the house, studio, gallery etc) no but Endemol will still want their pound of flesh.

ITv are selling assets left, right and centre right now so I don't see them wanting to fork out for it.

As Dems said, Any digital channel would drool for half those ratings that regularly.

I think it's about time they introduced us to some wacky, extreme types. The ones who maybe are not representative of their area/country but make for great viewing. The sort of housemate that you couldn't live with, in fact would really dislike in real life but would be entertaining to watch. NOT

I'm just hoping that they do not AGAIN hand pick contestants for their potential conflicts with each other. Let's us have some regular housemates. I'm not bothered if they're there for the cash at the end of the show (who wouldn't be), but please let them be nice down to earth people who we cal relate to and like.

Oh I didnt know ITV were broke.... As you and Derm have stated, the ratings are enviable and CH4 are foolish for letting it go.

Yep, pretty. ITV have been axing staff and departments all over the UK - they're skint.
The only thing that would save BB is if Sky took it over.
This is recession is really hitting hard Frowner.

Do you think Sky can make it better? They will lose half of the viewers because not everyone has sky Red Face

ITV have been in trouble for years, not just because of the current climate, although it hasn't helped.
I think Sky or another digital channel could do it justice, if they were interested in taking back to the good old days.

It will be a shame if it finishes but I do not think that it can go back to how the first few were
Far to many people now know how to work it and they are coming over as pushy showy and bland.

Get some farmers daughters and sons in as well as the unemployed but a couple of tax man and bankers in so we could realy rant on at them Big Grin

If BB is really ending it's because it's become too predictable now.

Pass few years we have token HM of each catagory. The one we are suppose to be sorry for (Nadia, Pete, Mikey), the bitch (Charley, Grace, Alexandra, Makosi), the flamboyant gay man (Richard, Marco, Dennis, Kemal), the loudmouth (Lisa BB7, Bex, Emma BB5), the oddball (Jonty, Lisa BB9, Eugene) etc.

We know who's up for eviction before it's annouced.

It's nearly always obvious who is evicted with the betting odds.

Too many recycled and lazy tasks.

Personally, I think we need a break for a few years, with new production and editing teams, and maybe there would be a demand and hunger for it.

Every press release Channel 4 do about Big Brother feels like... like...

Well if it were on here it would be trolling or flaming... is like they make statements just to wind me up.

Its about time their press releases were directed at big brother fans, and not at the scathing people who look down their nose at big brother... cos there is an undercurrent almost of apology in the recent statements Ch4 has made.

Like they want to play with the BBC Radio 4 people, and so are trying to distance themselves from us BB lowlifes.

I think the problem for BB is that the management of C4 are desperate for a merger with BBC Worldwide, which is the commercial arm of the BBC.
If this gets government approval the Beeb might not want to be associated with a programme so potentially controversial as Big Brother.

Just read this... SO I WAS RIGHT!

Bloomin heck!

I def think it peaked several yrs ago but it still gets decent viewing figures and it is probs the best watched show on chan 4 so I reckon they will stick with it - maybe chan 4 just told davina this cos they wanted shot of her and didnt want to hurt her feelings lol

I know they wanted to get to the 10 year anniversary, so good on em. But it has had its day

I agree. It's reached it's 10th year which is more than some really good and better series have. The same old same old is getting pretty boring
