Jerusalem ones make a great soup (more of a winter veg really)

Globe I cooked for the first time last week.

Snip off the tip of each of those petal things, boil the artichoke for about 15 - 20 mins.
Put the petal in your mouth and use your teeth to get out the bit inside each petal.
Inside the petals there is a hairy bit - cut off the hairy bit and underneath is another edible bit (the heart).
The artichoke petals and heart can be dipped in vinaigrette, butter or garlic butter.

It is a devious vegetable, like spinach. Glance

I bloody love spinach! You are a spinichist! It is brilliant raw, in salads. And the best way to cook it is to heat some oil in a wok, chuck in some chopped garlic, throw in the spinach. Season, put it a splash of balsamic vinegar and serve.

Or, brown some bacon and throw the spinach in with some balsamic, and toss it.

If it's good enough for Popeye, it's good enough for me.
