i disagree that she knew what she was getting into when she auditioned........she turned up.....same as everyone else to try her luck......
she got through and it went mental.....it wasn't her fault millions watched her on you tube....wasn't her fault demi moore wrote about her....all she did was sing......i doubt very much when she opened her mouth that first audition she knew what was going to happen next......after all.....diversity and flawless aren't being invited on oprah are they????....they're just talked about in the uk as an act on bgt......not susan boyle's fault the media went into a frenzy about her.....
the only thing she might've expected if she got through was to appear in the papers here....same as all the other contestants....
she's gone from being a complete unknown....to being globally known in a few short months......now she can't move without someone writing about it.....now that's going to be difficult for anyone to adjust too.....never mind someone with her difficulties
good luck to her i say....

I agree with Darlo - I feel really sorry for the other acts. Surely they should all get publicity, not make it all about Susan?
They should all have fair publicity. But even when the other acts have been on TV to talk about their act, they are always asked about Susan Boyle, her name always crops up which is a bit unfair on them .
This is a good point too and well said Lady P tooquote:Originally posted by darloboy07:quote:Originally posted by Lady P:

I am a bit bored of it all, thought I had escaped it all, but she was on the Canadian news last night
Thanks Holly. We only went down south (Southampton/The New Forest/Stonehenge) for a few days, but the weather has been brilliant; nice to be back home though. Thanks for your post and I do actually agree. Susan will have to be looked after now. I just hope she can survive this.quote:Originally posted by Hollygolightly:HI CP - welcome back I actually think that the BGT pr people have turned the public against Susan, too much exposure (which is a very real shame. They should have just let her get on with it, have her moments in the sun and probably go on to win the show) Personally I don't think folk are jealous but thats only my opinion.(Dermantoid put it very well when she said the whole hype started with her plain appearance and ability to sing) However, I think that Susan will have to be monitored carefully beacause it could all go so terribly wrong for her and that for me would be the real shame in this whole drama.
Gotta go. Will be back later on Thanks everyone. See ya later
Pixie, I will try to keep my cynicism under
control here but to me this is all about
Simon Cowell making money ~ whether it be
from good publicity or bad. Susan just happens to be the vehicle for that.
To address your main point, people are mean
spirited (especially where reality/talent shows are concerned). I'm not a mean spirited person
at all but when BB comes on I get vitriolic. I can't figure that one out.
I feel sorry for the woman because nothing
was done to prepare her for the madness going
on around her at the moment. But then maybe
they didn't forsee her being globally popular.
However, Simon Cowell Inc should take some responsibility
and protect her from the red top hounds.

...... and therein lies the crux Pixie. The great British trait of building someone up and then knocking them down like a game of skittles!
I really am beginning to feel sorry for the woman.
She never sought this hype - she merely wanted to take her chances by entering BGT and now has to face this barrage for which she is totally unprepared!
Unfortunately (and very sadly), yes we are Pixie.
Why can't we just be spontaneous instead of revelling in making someone else unhappy and miserable?

Also BB contestants are talentless wannabes who don't deserve a SHRED of recognition. Susan actually has talent. How would people here like it, if it was their friend/sister/mother/daughter in Susan's position, receiving all this negativity and spite?quote:Originally posted by faerykelstar:
I really think the show's producer's are to blame. Pier's is moaning about how she isn't prepared for all this flak but he was, then they should have given her a bit of media training so she knew how to deal with it better, rather than exploit her to promote their show and make more money out of the poor woman. BB contestants have to go through and suffer MUCH worse flak than what she has had to endure. I think they were ill prepared and have created this dilemma themselves. It is after all of this a marketing technique for the show and gets it talked about more. I don't wish anyone to go through that but you can't expect to go onto a big TV show and not have anyone talk about you!
I'm not so sure, I think if they had sat her down and explained she may get some bad press and helped her deal with it then it wouldn't be so hard on her. I never actually said BB contestants are talented ( anything but!!) just that they have preparation before going into the house to prepare them for the onslaught when they leave it. I do actually feel sorry for her, but think that the show's producer's are loving it because it gets the show talked about. All publicity is good publicity and all that.
