its possible channel4 had fretted away their revenues on film productions that had bombed...hence been hit hard by the credit crunch.
And yet they've had endless funds to spend on importing endless American rubbish, instead of nurturing British talent.If they get a share of the licence fee, the BBC should ask for a cut of C4's advertising profits too.
Instead of adding all those + channels and showing endless repeat of friends they should show more quality programmes...
Channel 4's problems are their own fault - they spent too much of what they made on absolute rubbish now they've got the begging bowl out

I must say that having not missed an episode of LOST I've also fallen behind. LOL
also cut down on these celebrity presenters wages would be good
channel 4 should be helped, in my opinion, if only because it has been one of the most daring and groundbreaking broadcaster in it's time.
I know it's hit the skids in the recent past and seems intent on compaigning for causes rather than producing the thought provoking, radical transmissions it used to.
Advertising has dropped, the internet is now a major competitor for advertising revenue, and now the credit crunch, has hit ch4 hard.
The cheapest broadcasting it has now are shows bought years ago from the states, such as friends which is just about filling up a ch4 channel on it's own.
As far as BB is concerned and the withdrawal of live feed, it would have been better had ch4 just said'' we're broke and can't afford it'' instead of the mumbojumbo about web clips etc.
I think it would be a shame if ch4 went to the wall, it's news coverage is the best,i think, and less biased than most.

The way I see it, If C4 accept govt handouts they are neutered, just another BBC.
No more documentaries like 'Secret Rulers Of The World', 'The Great Global Warming Swindle', 'Death of the Electric Car' etc.

So, once again, the taxpayers have to fork out the money to "save" an ailing business. Never mind that the average person earns far less than the average, talentless presenter.

Apart from BB, I never watch C4 anyway and now it's killed BB off, I wouldn't care if it went to the wall.

I love C4. They have the best news programme on UK TV for starters. They're also alternative, which I guess is part is their charter.
If the government is to spend money on it then they should save money from the BBC by cutting the salaries of the top employees.
It's all very well doing 25-40% cuts in the middle but top-paid tossers like Chris Moyles and Wossy ought to be hit hard. We can afford to lose them if they won't, I'm sure there is aspiring talent waiting in the wings.

I thought they had brought in a "successful" businessman as chairman rather than a media specialist precisely to prevent this from happening. Maybe appointing a pizza salesman wasn't the cleverest of ideas in hindsight.

its my favourite channel actually from its first conception.
the news programme is second to none (besides newsnight).
but choice of programmes is getting less and less ....

I agree mostly, however, C4 should have started the ball rolling by not giving Davina such a big payrise, surely? That didn't help their cause much when they were telling the fans there was no money for LF yet they were handing out more cash for lousy sets and payrises.
Its a pity GB isn't a BB fan if it was up to me I would say get stuffed you cut the LF.
Aeriously why should a private company get taxpayers help (yes it is a tax) if bob the builder the self emloyed dude down the road runs int trouble he gets sod all except the inland revenue demanding all his tax is paid when he goes bust.
