Good idea, keep her mind active. Mines been told to stop sleeping so much, its all she wants to do. We had to insist she stopped driving a few months ago, before the diagnosis, she was a danger to herself and everyone else on the roads. She had given Mr Cinds and I a lift one day, and did a sudden manoeuvre that made us both scream.

Its so frustrating for them. They know they're losing it and its so upsetting for them.We try to joke about it and keep her upbeat....but equally she knows we're humouring her

Yes I know what you mean!

Although it took us a while to realise that there was a problem. She has been quite 'off' for as long as any of us can remember, (she had a shit time in her childhood and also for some part of her adult years), so when the dementia did set in, it took a while to define between that and her usual behaviour.

I'm 9 years into mine, l was on HRT, but another doctor took me off over concerns about my blood pressure. I know with HRT it stops the symptoms, but l think it also stops the clock. So when the HRT was stopped, the 4 years l was on it has been added to the 10 years. The flushes are just as strong now, as they were when l started.

Hi Scotty i was diagnosed by bloot tests 12 years ago when i was 40,but i kinda thought oh well at least i will get it over with and be finished by the time others are just starting,it didnt work out like that Shake Head
I am still getting the symptoms just as badly now as then.
Last week i lost my glasses and found them in the bowl whilst washing up,but the worst has always been the night sweats, and lack of sleep i have been known to get up in the night and sit out in the garden in the snow or soak sheets in the bath an place them on top of me in bed, whatever it takes really. The daytime is not too bad but then i am too tired or emotional to make the most of it,my mom and other female relatives have all sailed through it.
So yes i sympathise, but the plus side is you can get away with murder and blame everything on it.
wavey

Maggie
maggiep
Took me three years to get through the change, memory was atrocious and sweats day and night, great in winter, you don't need the heating on!
I finished about four years ago, but the sweats returned last year.
It got me down so much, my doctor prescribed Paroxetine, (happy tabs) and the sweats stopped..........completely.
A search on the net showed that it can relieve the symptom! Worth knowing!

p.s. I'm now 58 and have never been on hrt!
