Happy Birthday OHG.
I actually remember the coronation, I was 3 years old and my parents bought a tv. I remember all the children who were born that year got a rememberance silver spoon from the local council and they gave me one by mistake....they came round 2 days later to take it back and give me a ball instead

I remember Corornation Day clearly too. My mother was in hospital in labour, my baby sister was born the next day so my grandmother was looking after us during the day as daddy was at work. My local primary school had a big Field Day to celebrate the coronation. I came third in the fancy dress competition and won a coronation mug and a commemorative 5 shilling coin. I came third in a race and won a coronation mug and a commemorative 5 shilling coin. The local council gave all the children in the city, including me, a coronation mug and a commemorative 5 shilling coin. I still have them somewhere.
I just have this clear memory of red, white and blue EVERYTHING! Bunting, newspaper front pages, shops, flags, everywhere you looked it was red, white and blue and everyone was so fed up of it.
Oh yes I remember, I have a five shilling coin too, it`s in my jewellery box
