The reason I'm asking is after 9 BB's it's pretty obvious that BB always look for a villian, and often the person they choose is always quite intelligent.

Mark my words, even though I'm not a fan Marcus's he will be the villain of this series.

An example of the stupid angle is Charlie, he has not said or done anything remotely interesting, he's at best an overgrown toddler in tight shorts, doing a poundland version of Brian Dowling, yet I keep hearing people saying he's really funny, Sophia said it tonight when she was being interviewed.

I've yet to see an example of his staggering wit, or any sign of reasonable intelligence.
Is it all BB manipulation or could it be all simply down to the edit?

Fair do's...he's even sporting the Victorian melodrama villain facial hair (I even want to keep calling him 'Sir Tarquin' or summat until he opens his less-than-top-drawer gob)

I'm getting the impression (for a long time) that production don't do subtleties re. casting. Disappointed

Because so many people aspire to so little. Only Z-lebrity is where it's at. And mediocrity rules.

The Jade Goody phenomenon opened up the show to a whole new kind of HM......pretty much everyone who enters that House wants to be the next mega BB success story (on the back of no discernible talent). I'm sure most of them think "if SHE could do it, why not me?"

And don't even get me started on the showmances.....Laugh

think they are appealing to the teen market, accelerating the dumbing down... or maybe the dumping down the toilet....

Superior intelligence would alienate a lot of the viewing public.

They like to feel superior when housemates don't even know how many days there are in a year, or if there is chicken in chick peas, and of course if East Angular is abroad. Then it's funny.

Having to listen to intelligent conversation / debate would turn a lot of their demographic away. They just want to see t&a, a good row and the housemates getting smashed on booze.

Having said that, I do enjoy a good barny Devil

One has to dumb oneself down to survive in Great Britain.

being clever or intelligent is not the done thing perhaps Nod
it triggers some deep seated neanderthal's survival instincts

Being intelligent is not the done thing for most people because the majority don't understand what it is to have high intelligence.

For the past 30 years, various governments (Tory and Labour) have done all they could to iron out high intelligence and pander to the great majority who have average intelligence. Cultured accents and polite behaviour are associated with high intelligence and these have also been cast out of favour.

However, polite behaviour, in particular, is not in the gift of only those with high intelligence, so all this dumbing-down has backfired somewhat.

The strange thing is, I don't think BB does particularly cater to the teen market. This forum, for example, seems to be populated mainly by 30-50 somethings who are interested in the interractions of the housemates.

The teen market is possibly interested in the arguments and anything else which might seem rebellious, but I don't think the teen market is in the majority.

I believe the opposite to be true. One has to avoid dumbing down to survive.

Let me understand you: you think speaking in a well-modulated voice, having good manners and displaying high intelligence are universally applauded in Britain these days?
