This is slightly off-topic but it does relate to dogs and slugs.
Back in the days when we bred dogs for show we had a litter of 7 pups which we kept in our nice purpose built kennel in the garden.
One sweltery July night, when they were about 6 weeks old I went down to check on them and tuck them in. When I turned on the light it looked like they were foaming at the mouth.
Not knowing what terrifying disease could cause them all to start foaming at the mouth at the same time picked one up and noticed that whatever was causing the foaming was quite solid. I scooped it out and it turned out that all the local slugs had turned out that night and the puppies had thought that this was a great feast.
We had a less than happy couple of hours cleaning slugs out of puppies' mouths and they never slept in their lovely new kennel again.
