...anybody watching it?

They are in Papya (sp) New Guinea, the Rainforessts are owned by the remote tribes that live there, and are been sold for logging.

It said that the land owner (tribe) will get around ÂĢ8 for each tree, by the time it reaches the UK it will be sold on for around ÂĢ1,000.

The tribes sell the trees so they can afford to get medical treatment as malaria is rife...

...so sad that they are cutting these magnificent places down, it is said that they contain aroun 60 to 80% of all species...they also help reduce global warming.

i understand these tribes need money for medical care, but it sickens me that somebody somewhere is making so much money and paying these tribes a pittance....how can they sleep at night knowing they are ripping people off for their own greedy needs, people are dying from malaria and they pay them nothing....

...these rainforests need to be saved....it saddens me so much...Nod

We should Daniel Nod Why can't we do something?

I do remember a similar thing on the BBC last year, the place they were at (can't quite remember where) was also being felled for the same reasons..

..the Government of the place had asked the UK to do a deal with them in order to save the rainforests and provide them with help for healthcare etc, not much money, just a few simple things so the tribes could survive....the UK Government hadn't replied!!!!

These places are magnificent, and some greedy wood merchants somewhere are not only destroying the rainforests, but robbing these poor tribes of their heritage...sad...Shake Head

Everything has to be on the altar of the so called developed countries unfortunately. I despair sometimes about the way we abuse the planet and the people on it.
